I am trying to use one of these (HP iPAQ rx5935) for hiking. I also use a Garmin GPS unit which is accurate to about 10 feet. The HP in GPS mode (not Tom Tom) and with a MemoryMap route loaded will only track my whereabouts to within about 100 yards ie. the position marker lags behind my actual position by about an inch on the screen which at the scale I use is around 100 yards. Is this a hardware or software fault and what should I do about it or is this as accurate as I can expect ?

Well, personally i choose the garmin gps receiver. The reason for me using garmin, is because their maps have much more detail. Also, garmin maps is much more accurate. And this is because the waypoints and markers on Garmin gps maps itself is so much more complete.

There is nothing you can do about the lag and the inaccuracy. It has to do with the map which you are using.

If you have an older map installed, it might be helpful to install, or upgrade the current map.
