Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a gas dryer that starts with the dryer motor turning on properly and heating. within 2-5 minutes it is intermittent and eventually stops heating and turns off. The dryer continues to turn but does not heat. I have replaced gas line, checked for blockage, and cleaned the lint trap. It tumbles but does not heat continually

Hi my hotpoint dryer wont turn please help

You have the belt on wrong. There is a side with numbers or writing on it and ribbed side like treads. The tread side should be facing down, making contact with the drum. If the other side is touching the drum then whenever clothes are put in the belt will slip causing the drum not to turn.

My dryer will start to run but will not heat up and will turn off in two to three mins after starting.

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

check out this electric no heat tip...

Gas dryer not maintaining heat. The dryer heats at the start (after rest), and maintains the heat for about 15 minutes. After that, the dryer continues to tumble, but the dial (i.e. control timer knob)...

The problem is with the 2 little circular black coils next to the ignitor. They need to energize before the gas valve can open. They tend to get weak over time. I am 100% sure this is your problem. Good luck :)

Hi I am trying to clean my drain unsder my washer. I do not know how to pull the cover off.?? It appears I need special alan wrenchs for two little screws..?? any ideas??

Though the idea of repairing a clothes dryer can be pretty intimidating, the truth is that some types of repairs are surprisingly easy. Yes, dryers appear to be built like huge, impervious metal boxes, but they are typically pretty easy to open and relatively simple to fix.

As shown at How Clothes Dryers Works, a clothes dryer has a motor that turns a big drum containing the clothes, a heat source for blowing warm air into the drum to dry the clothes, and controls for operating the motor and heat source.
Some dryers have an electric element to do the heating while others utilize a gas flame; the latter must be vented.
Clothes dryer problems generally occur because the heat source doesn't heat properly or the motor fails to turn the drum.
If a gas dryer doesn't dry properly, the first thing to check is the pilot light or igniter--it may not be lighting the burner. The second thing to check is the dryer's vent-if it is clogged with lint, the heating system won't work properly.

Pay attention to basic safety measures when working on a dryer. Always unplug the dryer, and turn off the gas supply to a gas dryer at the appliance shutoff valve.
As with most appliances, maintenance will keep your dryer purring. Clean the lint trap after every load, and clean the vent system once a year.

Whirlpool LSW9750PW3. The washer has an intermittent problem. When it works it works great. When it malfunctions (using permanent press cycle), the washer will fill up and then the timer will stop...

sounds like motor contacts in timer may not be closing properly motor is trying to start but with contacts not right it overheats and shuts off ..also may be motor start switch that is where the wires connect to motor also ckd motor connector closely to may sure there is no loose connection between it and motor connections

Frigidaire FEZ83AS1 washing machine fills with water but won't start cycle

I will answer this in two parts.

1. Sounds like a worn lid switch. Some Units will not start if this switch is worn/faulty. This can cause intermittent switch contact.

Tony55440
2. The motor thermal switch is a definite possibility. This switch is part of the motor assembly and cannot be replaced by itself.
