Question about HP PAVILION A6230N DESKTOP PC

2 Answers

Backup The HP Pavilion Desktop has a D: drive for restoring Windows XP. I am looking to the future, to the day when the C: drive eventually fails. If I now backup the D: drive to DVD, can I use that DVD in the future to reinstall Windows XP on a new C: drive if my current C: drive fails?

Short dst fail on hp pavilion g6 2210us with windows 8

If you have no warranty you will need to replace the hard drive.Did you make restore discs? If you did you can use those but will no longer have a restore partition on your hard drive. You may be able to clone your G6 drive onto the new one if it is recognized by Windows in another computer. You will need cloning software,( I use EaseUs Todo Backup ) and 2 external hard drive caddies to do it now that the HDD is failing and not booting to Windows on your machine.

My Hp Pavilion will not boot windows Xp all I get is, file is missing or corrupt. /Windows/inf/ Will not go into safe mode, or let me install Windows XP from cd, Do not have recovery disk

Could be bad harddive, or it could just be corrupted boot files on the harddrive.
You really DO need the Restoration Disk.

A moment if I may;

Next time you buy a computer; Laptop Or Desktop, and
IF it does not come with a Restoration Disk; when asked MAKE a Backup disk.

When a computer is new, and is fired up for the first time; you are asked if you wish to make a Backup Disk. THIS, is the Restoration Disk. Just has the Basic Windows files.

IF you click on 'Don't Show Me Again', or wait too long, the option is GONE.

In the US the Restoration Disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.
Call 800-474-6836
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

(I checked here in the States. {Called} The above still applies)

For other countries use HP Support Worldwide, for the HP Support contact phone number,

(If you are not in the US William, I wonder if I could ask a favor. Can you tell me if the rates are comparable in the country you are in, and is it easy to get the Restoration Disk, or a hassle? I like to help people around the world, and feel this info may be beneficial )

When you get the Restoration Disk;
Go into BIOS Setup, and in Boot Options, set the first boot device to CDROM.

(CDROM will be moved to the top of the Boot Order list)

Your statement of, "....or let me install Windows XP from CD"

Full Installation CD?
Know this; Windows does NOT like to be written over, with the SAME build of Windows, or a lessor version.
(Lessor version for WinXP would be Win ME, Win2000, Win98SE)

BIOS Setup > Boot Order > First boot device is CDROM; will force Windows to boot from the CD.

AS SOON AS YOU PRESS the Power On button, start tapping on the enter BIOS Setup key. The key is displayed on the HP Invent logo page, at the Bottom. The enter BIOS Setup key for your Pavilion ZE4900 Notebook PC is F2.

(The window of opportunity goes by F-A-S-T. Using the above method will get you in )

Use the appropriate Arrow key, and highlight -> Boot Order
Use the Down Arrow key to highlight CDROM.
Look at the navigation guide at bootom, and right side.

Use the appropriate key to move CDROM to the TOP of the list.
May be the Minus ( - ) key, or Page Up/Page Down key/s.

When CDROM is at the top, press the Enter key.
IF, you do NOT save changes it will be like you have done nothing at all.
(You haven't)

May be a Y for Yes, or N for No, or Yes/No listed. Highlight Y, or Yes.
(Capital Y is just shown for clarity. Press the lower case y )

Then press the Enter key.

The laptop will restart. Open the optical drive tray, insert the Restoration Disk, close the optical drive tray.

Didn't work?
Press the CTRL key, ALT key, and DELete key AT THE SAME TIME.
This will restart the laptop, and Windows will boot from the Restoration Disk.

WHEN asked choose -> Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation)

IF, you choose Full Install, (Destructive Installation), you will WIPE ALL of your personal info off.
Photos, videos, music, programs/applications you have downloaded, and installed; programs/applications you have physically installed from disk/s; documents you have downloaded, or created.

If you have never entered BIOS Setup, or changed the Boot Order; the above may look intimidating to you.
Just post back in a Comment, and I will guide you. Post what you see, and what the problem is.

Harddrive is bad? Restoration Disk won't fix it. WILL put your basic Windows back on the NEW harddrive, however.

Windows 7 will burn me a backup and rescue but opens them and other things to file instead of run , I think its internal and bad windows 7 . Posible not formatting right as it will not recognize any data...

Windows 7 will not open files or anything else that you have backed up. The backup is to RESTORE files and programs that have gotten damaged due to a hard drive crash. You want to save things to a cd/dvd just use file copy not backup. Like i said backup is NOT for file storage. Hope this helps
