How big is your hard drive?
Download ccleaner from:

http://www.ccleaner.com/

this will get rid of all your uneeded files.

go to start>my computer>

then right click on your c: drive and select properties.

this will tell you how much of your drive is used.
Defragging usually dosent pay any rewards when you take into account how long it takes compared to any benefits.

if space is that tight then i suggest buying an external usb hard drive. these are cheap and easy to install and you can copy all of your non system files over to it.

I'm trying to increase hard disk space on a Dell

Hi.

The Dell Inspiron 1100 is a laptop whereas the Dell Dimension 2400 is a desktop pc.

The hard drives are incompatible because they are a different size, plus the Inspiron only supports one hard drive so you can't install a slave device. The only way to increase hard disk space is to buy a large capacity internal IDE laptop drive or an external hard drive.

Regards.

Small hard disk

Hi ,
is it full of appications , or just a small harddrive , so there is two things you can do ,
1st - click on the start button and on the right you'll see my computer , click on that ,
then right click on your harddrive and perform a disk clean up , that should free up some space.
2nd- you can go to the control panel and programs and features and remove some of the programs you have installed ,
3rd- you can replace the harddrive with an upgrade that would give you a better drive with more space ................................Goodluck Roy

My dell dimension 3000 pc has run out of memory space on the C-drive. How do I add more memory?

You can't directly add additional memory space to the C drive, but you can add additional hard drive and move the files from C drive to the additional drive. If there's enough space on D or E drive, you can move from C drive to the other drive. Note that your C drive includes your Desktop, My Documents files, My videos, My pictures, My Music etc.. So make sure you haven't saved extra files on you Desktop or My Documents. To free up some space, you can run DiskCleanup utility which is built-in with the Operating System. To do this, Right click on the C drive, Properties - Disk Cleanup... and then provide positive input, eg. yes or ok. good luck..

Dell Dimension 3000 desktop with Samsung SH-S182M DVD/CD-RW often fails to read disk in drive. Usually occurs with a data disk that has previously been written by the same drive. Almost always reads disk...

The drive's laser lens is dirty, try to clean it. If that fails to have an effect then the dirt has already been burned on the lens, unfixable, replace the dvd unit.

My computer is so slow

Increase the RAM size of your computer. Remove Unwanted programmes. Make sure there is enough space for the Paging file. The paging file requires a minimium of 1.5% of the RAM sizw as free disk space on the paging file disk. make sure the is some space left on your system drive (in most cases the "C" drive).

Im trying to upgrade my hard drive from a 40g to a 160 but it only shows up as 40gb

You probably used software to "clone" the "old" disk-drive to the "new" disk-drive. So, the "new" drive is an *EXACT* image of the 40GB drive.

Click Start
Point to My Computer
Click with the SECOND (usually the RIGHT) mouse-button.
Click Manage
Double-click Storage
Double-click Disk Management (local)
You'll see that the "last" 120GB on the new disk are "unallocated".

Use that "disk-cloning" software to "resize" the 40GB partition on the new disk-drive, to integrate that "unallocated" space into the current partition.

Or, right-mouse click on that "unallocated" space, and create a partition within that space, and to "format" that space, and to assign a drive-letter (E: ? F: ?) to that 120GB of disk-space.

I need to add storage to my older dell dimension 3000. The 80 g hd is full and I am looking for a simple solution to add more space.

first remove any extraneous applications, and archive old data to a cd. Then run "Disk cleanup" and defrag drive. after that and if still not enough space, buy an external drive and follow installation instructions. Cheap fix.

Used Dell Dimension 3000 drive issues

If you mean you need to install windows, you need to set your cdrom drive as first boot device in advanced bios settings or it will try to boot into a non-existent windows. Make sure your hdd is showing as the master drive, save settings and exit bios. Re-boot pc with windows disc in cd drive and hit enter when prompted to boot from cd.
