Question about Motorola Mobility RAZR V3

Unable to receive or send picture messages

I just purchased a V3 Razr from Ebay (I think that was my first mistake...). It said that it was an unlocked phone for AT&T/Tmobile. My service is AT&T so I figured it was ok. I put my SIM card in the phone and as far as it making and receiving calls and text messages it works great. However, I will not send or receive picture messages. I have gone into my local AT&T store and spent over an hour on the phone with the tech support line and they were not able to fix it either. IS there someone out there that can help me? Or am I better off returning the phone and getting one from somewhere else? What may be a better website to purchase an unlocked phone from?

thanks!! Carol

IS there one that is better than the other? will it hurt anything if I do both?

  • cmini Apr 30, 2008

I've already been to the service provider. I went into the store and spoke with tech support. They didn't have a clue. The thing is that it is essentially the same phone I had before, just a little more updated of a model...

I tried to do the update from the motorola website directly through the phone and I seem to be missing some of the menu options. It says to go to Main Menu -> Settings -> Phone Status -> Software Update -> Check Server. However, when I get to "phone status", there is no option for software update. It only gives me "My telephone numbers", "battery meter",or "other information". I go into "other information" and the list is: flex version, technology, s/w version, dsp s/w version, language list, data ready, & browser ready. I checked in all of those and there is no option for a software update. I also looked Web Access and I cannot find anything (unless I just don't know what I'm looking for...) Does anyone know where else to look for this? thanks

Well if you really want the pictures option then you should probably return the phone, but if you don't mind not having them then keep it or you could try having the software reinstalled on the phone and see if that helps.

it doesn't matter which one you do, they will both do the same thing, the Motorola link just lets you do it through the phone or computer while the other one is through the computer only

Do you have a cable to connect it to the computer with in order to do this otherwise?

The update area would be where the battery meter is showing up, I guess you just don't have it for some reason

    see here what I mean

photo sending(I'm assuming through SMS?) would be a combination of the device configuration(firmware) and the service level..perhaps you might enquire of your service providor if that device is compatible with their photo sending service?

Motorola V3 Razr Sending/Receiving pics in text messages

ATT should have looked to see if the internet service is turned off for that particular phone. If thats the case, you shall not send receive pictures. Thats the only the reason you should not be able to send receive pictures.

Call ATT again and ask them that. Sorry to say you might have got the high school dropout rehab person that day.

Unable to send/receive picture messages

Perhaps ask your network provider to send you a new SIM card with MMS capability - remember to ask to keep your number.
Once you receive the SIM, you will have to call your network provider's customer service department to activate it.
The whole thing takes around 3 days to do, and it's worth it just to find out.

MMS messaging on RZR phone

I will need to know your who your service provider is to help you. Yet, I can suggest that you go to your service providers website and go to the support section. Then look for MMS profiles or settings. Many of the providers will send the settings to fix the problem straight to your phone. This also means that you bought an unlocked phone by the way.
