Dell Inspiron 8500 Dead after Video Card Change

One day when I started my computer, I got the old screen fading to white and the computer not starting. I have had this issue before, and needed a new video card. This time, when I got a new card, and installed it, my computer would not even start at all. When I power up my computer, the 3 lights go on and flash for a bit, then go off after about 15-20 seconds. Any thoughts on what else I can do? At least before the computer and fan would start up, but now I cannot even get this. Thanks

That soundslike a good deal. the only reason why I dont think the motherboard is dead is that the computer would start up, to an extent, before I changed the video card. Perhaps all my screwing, unscrewing, air blowing, and failed start ups killed the motherboard?

I got it in June 2003, so it is quite old and has had its share of
issues. The battery, sound card and video card have all died and been
replaced in the past, and I only survive using an external HD and an
ice pack so that the computer does not overheat.l I plan to get a new
computer within a few months but I still want this one to last as long
    as it can.

When I. boot up my notebook, I see Dell icon, and window icon, then I heard beep. Nothing shows on my screen. If I bootup in safe mode, I can see the screen. Now I use an external monitor to boot up my note book. Dell support told me I need to replace video card, any suggestion, is it easy to change lcd?

when I boot up my laptop, I can see dell icon and window icon, after that it went black. I am using an external monitor instead. However, it works in safe mode. Dell told me to replace video card, any suggestion?

3 days ago I thought i'd give my dell Inspiron 8500 a clean out, against the saying if it aint broke dont fix it, I now regret doing so as it wont boot properly anymore.
It started up a few times but not anymore. The first sign of trouble was all the funny colours appearing on my screen, so i turned it off and restarted it. this time it wont get past the windows startup before funny colours and shapes appearing all over the screen. so i restart it and the thiing does nothing, the screen goes black with a white outline and they sort of fade together to black.
My brother used the turn brick once and i thought it was funny, now i'm scared.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

It is possible, but then again with all your screwing and unscrewing air blowing and failed start ups, did you make sure you seated the video card correctly and not bend any pins? I am guessin you didn't and if that is the case then chances are that the motherboard is going out on you. How old is the computer?

I had the same problem with my Inspiron 600m. I relplaced the mother board and have had no problems since. Found a new one on E bay for $119 straight from Japan.

SOURCE: dell inspiron 8500 laptop screen

hello, when the screen changes colors or stays in one color it is mostly cause of a video card problem. Does this happens only when overheated, then maybe you can blow the cpu-video card heatsink and use a base with a fan to avoid overheating. If the screen is white all the time then maybe only a 2nd monitor will help understand if this is a problem of the video card or the screen.

That is just a video driver problem, go to support.dell.com and download the latest driver for your video card and install - should fix this problem for you.
if you are unsure of what drivers to download, Dell has an auto-scan for drivers - that can help!

Hi,
Best Option Is To Purchase Another Video Card, Or check it has all the required Drivers Via The external Monitor. With No Conflicts Et,c. Only Other Suggestion Is Screen Inverter Board.
