The router has nothing to do with what versions of Windows you may be running on various systems.
Try this: Turn of your firewall on both systems. Also make sure both systems are using the same workgroup. RIght click My computer or Computer and look at Properties. Click Change to change your workgroup name to whatever you like. Both have to be the same. Click OK on that and reboot both your systems. Turn Firewalls back on.
