My kenmore gasdryer wont stay on.will only stay on if you keep your finger on the button.i dont here any ticking from the timer.

sounds like the timer running,put your ear to the timer dial to see

What is the model number of your unit?

• firstly dont hold your finger on the button
• by doing this you are running the motor on the start winding
• this winding is for momentary operation only, just to get things started.
• You must have a fault in the run circuit of the motor.
• To save your dryer. dont use it till you get someone who can fix the run circuit. It may only be contact failure, or jammed up with lint.

Please check your Thermo fuse
and ticking noise should not be there unless the dryer is on which means that your timer is acting up

the most common problem with gas appliances not running is the flame probe. This device detects a flameout and shuts the gas valve. It could be faulty or not sitting in the flame itself

the timer has internal cog teeth with works with an ecentric cam to keep the timer operating. the cam is working if ticking although a tooth appears to be broken keeping the timer to advance on its own

Ticking sound is the timer running--so it is not the problem unless a contact has failed or a wire has come loose.  Broken door switch, thermostat failed in open position, or clogged lint filter/exhaust vent/outlet would keep unit from running.  If you can hear the motor running but the drum is not turning then the drum belt is broken.

Your dryers timer contacts have fused to gether.
The only repair is to replace the timer.

The starting capacitor has low storage of current some are open or shorted , need to replace the starting capacitor.
