Hi,

May be you have to check the power management settings which will shut down the compter when you press the power button.

First update the BIOS to the latest version before Installing windows.

You can see the instructions with iamge here

My hard drive has 300 GB. C drive is 283GB and D is recovery drive (17GB). Now I can only see my C drive in window exploer

this kind of problem possibly arises due to repetitive power failure, improper shutdown or the most probable bad sectors you can try the following software to get them back but if still not succed then try to backup your data and reinstall your system.

1. try the following command from your command prompt
chkdsk D: /f ----- Basically you should replace the drive name with your
actual missing drives one by one.

2. try this link

I put about 30 Gigs of pictures on my wd 500gb hard drive and am trying to "safely remove hardware". but it says there is a program running that is using the hard drive and to close it. There...

The quickest route would be to go through the shut down process on the computer. That will close out any processes that are still running. I would only do this if you are absolutely sure all the data has been transferred to the external drive. If you're not sure, leave it for a little while and check again later. Hope this helps : )

My System is affected by virus.when i format the total hard drive still it can run within some days.how 2 remove this virus manually or help 2 format the drive using any bootable software...plz...

I suggest booting from a bootable cdrom disk, instead of a floppy disk, USB drive, etc. Everything except the cdrom can quite easily become infected with a virus just by plugging it into the computer. You MUST create the bootable cdrom from a KNOWN clean computer! If you try to create one from the infected system, you can almost be assured you will only create an infected cdrom!

If you don't have a way of creating a bootable cdrom, try booting your system from your Windows installation cd / dvd. Do a complete format before the install and then SHUT DOWN the computer! Do NOT just reboot and continue with the installation of the OS. Viruses are "memory resident" in that they load themselves up into RAM when the computer boots and will remain there until the machine does a complete shut down. I recommend you shutdown (i.e., turn off the computer) and restart the machine a couple of times AFTER doing the format to be assured that the virus is eradicated.

Once you are satisfied the virus no longer exists, you can go ahead with a new install of the OS. The FIRST thing to do before loading ANY of your personal files back onto the computer is to install a virus scanning software -- and make sure it is active and the virus pattern files are current. After scanning the hard drive for problems and finding none, can you go ahead with the installation / restore of your personal files.

Chances are pretty good that the reason the computer runs OK for a couple of days and then the virus reappears is that a file you have installed or copied over from your backup is infected. Each time you launch the program / file, the virus gets installed and the cycle starts again.

After improper shut down, my Western Digital 1T firewire hard drive is no longer recognized

Ouch. It might have crash, sorry about that. On that big of the drive, if it doesn't shut down right, it can ruin it very easy. When you shut down properly it parks the head, and when it doesn't the head doesn't get park, and it tryies. When that happens it will crash the drive. I would try to do some diagnostics to it and check and I hope I am wrong, but it doesn't sound good at all.

Missing

well check ur hardrive in slave to an other system and then see if it show the missing partion then copy the data and format it.

if it wont then use partion software to check it like partion magic.
may be your system changed the partion to RAW format i mean UNPARTITIONED space due to improper shutdown.
