Yes... cos your video uses bandwidth for uploads (sending video across) and downloads (for viewing your friend's video)... So.. it will use some of your allocated quota..

Short answer yes , depending on how much you use skype will determine how fast you use your one gigabyte a month , so if you like using it a higher download limit would be advisable.

VIDEO CALLS

A video call is a call whereby the caller and the called can see each other on their respective devices. BUT, till now video calls were permitted only on 3G networks. And not all have 3G on their mobile phones. Or, not all phones are 3G compatible. You can still make a video call even if you do not have a 3G enabled phone or you do not subscribe to 3G network. How? Read on.
Fring and Skype have jointly come out with a new Fring social network whereby all Skype users using Fring on their phones can now make video calls over WiFI networks. Meaning, if I am a Skype user and accessing Skype through Fring on my phone then I can make a video call to any other Skype user (through Fring) if I have access to a WiFi network. Whether my phone is 3G network capable or not or whether I subscribe to 3G networks or not. Only requirement is a front camera on my phone.
Skype is an Instant Messenger that allows free skype to skype calls over the internet and can be downloaded free from www.skype.com.
Fring is a combination of Instant Messengers that provides you the facility of using most of the IMs with just one login into Fring. And some of the social networks as well. It can be downloaded free from www.fring.com.

Ge skype phone

This sounds like a problem with your actual Skype account and not your physical phone. You can use Skype normally, but "Skype Out" (calling land lines) costs money, and the system doesn't seem to think you have any credit on your account.

Try this:
1) Check your configuration on the phone and double check the Skype account username is the one you have credit on.

2) Login to Skype on a computer with the same account. Call someone's land line and confirm a call can connect.

If you can't connect to a land line there (but your Skype account shows you have credit), contact Skype support - there's something wrong on their end that they will have to fix.
If you can connect just fine, try clearing and resetting the user account settings on the phone. If it still doesn't work, try connecting it to a different network (go to Starbucks and use their wifi or something).

I have just downloaded Skype and want to know how to make a call with it?

Computer to computer calls are made by adding the contacts from your email lists or by adding an email name and asking Skype to locate them. If the user has Skype, you can call their PC. The other user must have Skype.
You can ask Skype to search your address book for Skype users to make this process go smoother.

If you are trying to make a PC to telephone call, you have to add money to your account. This is called buying credit. Land calls are 2.1 cents per minute. PC to PC calls are free.
You can dial any number using your keypad.

You must have a microphone and speakers to make a call to a land phone or other PC.
If you have a camera on your PC, you can make video calls from PC to PC. If the other person has a camera, you can see each other.
The button that says make calls is clicked and you follow the instructions on the screen. The red button is to hang up the call.

How do i use skype?

Skype is a great way to communicate.. I prefer it over other programs as it better suits a traveling person.
  1. Open a Skype Account. Go to www.skype.com
  2. (Computer->Computer) Search for your friends online. Add them by (Contacts / Add Contact). This is a free service
  3. (Computer->Phone). This is called SKYPE OUT. You can dial any fixed or mobile phone anywhere around the world if you add credit in your SKYPEOUT account (go to www.skypeout.com). Paypal and Credit card are supported. You can either add 10 EURO or 25 EURO at one time. Calls are cheap (depending on country), and are relatively comparable to IP cards. Remember to dial the country prefix!
  4. (Phone->Computer). This is called SKYPE IN. This is a VERY convenient service. SKYPE IN (www.skypein.com)allows you to reserve a phone number in a country of choice. The cost is 30 EURO a year, or 10 EURO for 3 months. This allows you to hand out a local number to friends / work collegues in a different country (so they are charged only a local call), and when they call you, your SKYPE on your computer will ring (no matter where you are in the world!). This is handy if you want to have a number on your business card for a country that you do not reside. The only cost to you is the yearly rental of the number, and the caller is charged a normal phone call charge.
Things You'll Need:
  • You'll need a Headset with a Microphone. The best to use is a set with the TWO plugs (microphone and speaker). Avoid the USB type headset (these can be painful when trying to remove the device). Th
  • You'll also need a Credit Card if you want to use SKYPEIN or SKYPEOUT
  • A computer! Preferably a newer computer with a better-than-modem connection.
  • Optional - WebCam. Version 2.0 and later supports video. Although not particularly flash - its still pretty cool (remember you'll need a fast internet connection for video)

Phone does not work for teleconference services that require a pin number

I've found dialing numbers to navigate automated answering systems through Skype to be unreliable in general. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. This holds true for using the numpad on the keyboard, my free-1 usb skype phone, AND now the new Philips VOIP8411B I got in the mail yesterday. I'm not surprised that the Philips doesn't work, since I've had the problem before, but still disappointed...

The only way I've been able to work around this problem is to make the call on the computer and dial numbers through the on-screen number pad (using my mouse) to get through automated systems that don't work with a handheld device. Yes, this defeats the puprose of buying and using all these cool gadgets like the Philips and the free-1, but only for these certain types of calls. And even when I use the on-screen number pad, it still doesn't work sometimes. That's when I start punching numbers frantically and hoping a real person will pick up the line... lol

@Pat56 - If you use teleconferencing so much, maybe it would be best just to do it through the computer with a USB headset instead of using the Philips VOIP8411B...? Just a thought.
