Re: Error Message on Dell 5100cn
Error Load MPF / A4 Plain 1/ 024-969 means there are no more A4 paper in the tray.
1. First of all, verify if there is any paper in the tray at all! (Don't worry, these things happen to the best of us:) Make sure you put the papers in the tray according to their sizes...eg: A4, Letter, etc.
2. Next, from printer properties, select the appropriate paper size - A4 when taking a printout.

This error typically means that the Size of paper defined in the print job being sent from the application does not match the size of the paper the printer has set for the MPF. (in this printer, MPF = Manual Feed)
For example: If you send a Letter size job to the printer from, lets say MS-Word, but the printer currently has Legal size paper assigned in the MPF, this error will result.
Are you trying to use the "MPF" (Manual Paper Feed) tray?
If you are then the manual paper feed tray is usually a fold down flap at the back of the printer. It only accepts on piece of paper at a time.
However, if you are just trying to print to the printer's default tray, then you need to check both the "Page Setup" in the application and the printer driver properties to make sure that you are calling the correct paper tray.
Is the paper pushed all the way back into the MPF?
If yes, what type/size paper is your application sending?
If you try to print the internal Printer Settings report, does it print?
This error typically means that no paper is sensed in the MPF OR that the wrong type/size paper is in the tray. (MPF settings do not match job specs)
it's asking for paper in the manual Paper Feeder (MPF). Somewhere in your settings you have it printing to the MPF. Check the settings in the printer prefrences, the printer itself and the software you're using.
Go to the printer web page by entering the IP address of the printer in an Internet Browser. click Printer Settings menu entry If the Substitute Tray value is not MPF Feed, click on the Printer Settings tab Set the Substitute Tray value to MPF Feed Click the button Apply New Settings, it will request the admin id & password for the printer.
In trying to resolve this issue, initially I set the Tray Settings to Panel Specified from Driver Specified at the printer's panel. Since the issue was resolved with this set, I just left it that way.
The MPF is simply the "Manual Paper Feed".
Your printer is set by default that the MPF paper type is "plain paper". Since you are telling the printer that you are trying to print lables, the printer is simply telling you that you need to load the MPF with lables.
If you say "ok", the printer sould continue and print the lables.
If you only print lables, the you can change the default paper for the MPF tray to "lables", and then you will no longer be prompted to load the tray.
This is usually related to the way the tray or trays are configured on the printer or the way the program from which your printing from is configured. If you are using ms office, as an example, if the instructions to the printer from the software (ms office) say to print this document to the Multi Purpose Feeder tray (MPF) using plain paper and there is no plain paper in the MPF, you will get this error. Conversersly, if the printer's MPF is configured to print only legal size paper, and the software you are using is sending a print job to the printer telling it to use letter in the MPF, you will get this error. Basically, the printer settings and the settings from the software must match in order for this error to not occur. The settings for the printer can be changed usinig the operators panel of the printer. Directions for this should be available in the users manual or from support.dell.com. The setings for the software shold be in the print properties/preferences of the software being used.
