How to recove Seagate external hard drive data?

Probably, the new operating system cannot recognize your Seagate external hard drive. You can connect the Seagate external hard drive to another computer to copy data to another device. If the problem still exists, you might need to perform data recovery. You can free download the data recovery software:

How do I get the Seagate to back up my files automatically?

In all probability the Seagate came with a proprietary Backup software. Look for it on the drive or on the Seagate website. Install it on your computer and see if you can configure it for a continuous backup. My Western Digital does that.
You can also open the computer maintenance folder (here I am assuming you are using Windows) and configure automatic backups.

You have number of options to implement this backup setup. If you are not interested in archived backup that you can't access without Restore option, then easiest solution is to use free Microsoft program SyncToy. SyncToy allows to copy, sync or echo files between folders. Setup is very easy and you need create pairs of folders for example pictures folder(s) on your laptop can be paired with pictures folder(s) on your new external drives. After you setup all needed folder pairs you can run backup manually.
To implement scheduled backup you will need to use another Microsoft Task Scheduler. you can find all the details in this blog

How do I work on my data on the Seagate FreeAgent 2TB GoFlex Desktop USB 2.0 Hard Drive as my computer memory is at capacity. I want to be able to use my external hard drive as an extension of my computer...

Assuming you are using a Windows operating system, you can just plug it into your computer's USB ports, and the computer will recognise it as another hard drive.

Double-click on 'My Computer' and take note of what drive letters are there (C:, D:, etc.) before you plug in the Seagate Freeagent.
Plug in the Seagate Freeagent. You'll see the new drive, likely E: or F: (depending on what is already there before you plugged in the Seagate Freeagent)
Double-click on the new drive, and it'll open up and you'll see the files stored on that drive. You can drag and drop files and save to this drive like any other folder on your computer.

Seagate ST31000528AS 1 TB SATA Hard Drive failure

You need to backup your files due to the failure problem and also you can check the warranty of your hard drive from seagate. If it is still in warranty you can send the Faulty Drive to Seagate and they will replace it with a new one. You can register tour product here and check the warranty.

Thanks for using Fixya.

You have "Simple Backup" on. To turn this function off and add custom files, you must open the Seagate Manager and select "Custom Backup" and then select the files and folders you want backed up. This should be under "Start" button, "Programs", "Seagate". Hope this was helpful.

Error (2013) whith Seagate Manager

Cause: File in history folder is corrupted or unmovable.
Solution: If an individual file is identified with the error, delete the affected file from x:\Seagate Backup\History folder on the external drive. If an individual file is not identified then it may be necessary to run Windows error checking on the external drive or delete the x:\Seagate Backup\History folder and run a fresh backup, if it can not be repaired.
