PC having trouble starting up

Hey there
I hope there is someone out there that can help me get my PC running.
Few months ago while i was busy downloading emails from the internet our area were having really bad power surges and since then my computer was having problems. I restarted it as soon as the power came back on but it just keeps restarting all the time without going into windows. I suspected the hard drive was corrupted and replaced it last week but Its still doing the same. Here it is.
The computer starts up, makes the one normal beep but as soon as its about the start calculating the RAM it just stops and restarts. I finally got it to enter Bios after several unsuccessful tries. The Bios is seeing the 512MB ram so I doubt it could be faulty.
Yesterday I could start the machine with the windows XP cd and it continues installing the DLL files etc. But as soon as the screen comes up saying Setup is loading windows it just stops and restarts again. After several restarts it will give me an error: something like the system has failed to boot several times...
I'm not an expert on computers etc but I do know pretty much and I know enough in Dos to sort out minor errors (if i could just get the pc to start up in dos) Pressing F8 on startup just gives me a blank screen with blinking cursor.
Please help

Thanks for that question. Didn't even suspect it could be the power supply. The fan at the back of the power supply is not spinning at all. So I switched it off and let it rest for a while and tried moving the fan with a pen but it feels really tight. I have ordered a new towercase with psu in it, so lets see if that helps.

    Thanks

Have you checked to see if the power supply was fried in the power outage? It is not all that uncommon.

If there is more than one stick of RAM memory installed try removing each one in turn and start the computer. You may have one bad stick of memory.

I have complicated trouble for my acer 4520, there are: 1. Suddenly, it can't be turn on the BIOS although the power led is on. I'm sure that there is any problem with battery. 2. For a few days ago,...

Generally speaking, the mainj boards are not serviceable without a lot of test gear and usually it is cheaper to replace it.
I think your problem is related to the DVD ROM. If it is not recognised by the BIOS, that generally means that it is not running.
If you can get to the BIOS then the motherboards system is running.
Remove the DVD ROM from the machine and fit another one.
Check out ebay for a replacement, a lot of private sellers and business sellers will be there.
Hope that saves you some time and cash.

I bought a new laptop 6 months ago and now i cant use my microsoft works 2007 keeps asking for a product key and i dont have a cd the laptop came with it allready built in

Hey,

The machine comes with a test version of the program, when that test runs out you must purchase the program, or use Open office instead, its a free alternative, but you must remove the office first for it to work. http://www.openoffice.org/

You need to have someone with a scantool check the sensors. I've had coolant temp sensors read -43F which tells the computer to dump more gas essentially flooding the engine.

Need to reslove transparency issues

You can adjust your graphics properties to not show translucent windows. Once in Performance Options, you can customize this option or choose adjust for best performance to remove all the bells and whistles for more speed. Hope this answers your question. All the best!

The most useful Windows XP performance-tuning options are on the Visual Effects and Advanced tabs of the Performance Options dialog box. You’ll find this box via the System Properties control panel by clicking the Settings button under Performance (Start | Control Panel | System | Performance | Settings). Figure A shows both the Visual Effects and Advanced tabs with the performance options you can easily modify.

Hey Tafari, It's an overheating issue that is common in xbox 360 models made between a certain date range. I had the same problem a few months ago.

All you gotta do is contact Microsoft tech support and provide them with your serial number. They'll ask you a couple of questions and then they'll get you to ship them the 360. (They pay for shipping)

They'll try to repair it, but if your lucky like me, you might get a new xbox 360 with 1 month of xbox live for free.

Hope this helps. Worked for me, should work for you.
