I will try the calbriation when I get time but I just newly loaded this printer to my new pc and I had to run the disc so I doubt that will make a difference. but I am willing to try. I don't want to close this out until I am sure I can't fix it. thank you for your advise.

You may have to recalibrate the machine.
1. Go to the calibration utility in your scanner software and open it. 2. Place a normal printed A4 size sheet (use only text without pictures or colour) onto the glass top.
3. Close the cover , making sure that there is no light entering the scanning surface due to a loose cover, etc.
4. Start the calibration tool.
Problem should be solved.

I don't think this is a problem with the glass, unless you can actually SEE visible streaks of dirt/grime on it. Besides, it is not recommended to remove the glass covering. Clean the surface side by all means, if you need to.

If all else fails, try reinstalling the driver for the scanner.

Hope that helps!

Cant suggest for you to open up the scanner by yourself, you might cause more damages on the printer itself, you can wipe the glass with a glass cleaner or either a damp cloth ( use a lukewarm water ) but dont actually put water on the glass. make sure you unplug the scanner from power source when cleaning it. If that doesnt help then it may need a servicer to have your scanner fix. If your product is still within the warranty call manufacturer for warranty claims.

Hope this helps..

I get a black line when scanning, ( not when printing)how do i fix it

This is commonly caused by a mark on the scanner plate. If you place your document to scan on the scanner plate (Lift the lid and place it on the glass plate) and scan or copy the document does it come out clean? If you feed the document through the Auto Document Feeder doe the line appear?

If when place on the plate it is clean but fed through the ADF there is a line, then when you lift the lid on the scanner you will see a narrow glass plate at the end (Normally the left end) of the scanner plate. Give this glass a clean and your mark will go away.

If the scan or copy is lined when using the Flatbed scanner and the ADF then the problem will be in the scanner lamp which will be probably uneconomical to fix.

I am scanning a photo. I have translucent lines running horizontal through the picture before i print it.

Documents scanned/copied from the document feeder pass over a thin glass area where scanning occurs. Clean this area if sent faxes, copies or scans have black or white vertical lines.
  1. Lift the document cover to expose the platen glass.

  2. Wipe the ADF scan area (C) with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water.

  3. Then wipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth making sure there are no residues left, especially on the platen glass.

  4. Close the document cover and make a copy of a text document to confirm the black line has disappeared.

Colored lines on a copy page

To fix the colored lines on a copy page do the below steps

  1. Disconnect the power cord, wait five seconds, and then plug it back in. This will reinitialize the unit and force the scanner to calibrate again.
  2. Examine the scanner glass and white scan backing. Clean the scanner glass and scan backing if they are not clean. To clean the scanner glass and scan backing, use a soft cloth towel slightly dampened with clean water.
  3. With the product turned on, open the scanner cover and check the bulb assembly. If the scanner bulb is not lit, the unit must be serviced.
  4. Verify that the alignment page is placed on the scanner glass or in the automatic document feeder (if equipped) correctly. Place the printed side down.
  5. Make a copy of the alignment page. The unit will make a copy even if the alignment message is displayed. Compare the copy to the original. If vertical lines appear in the copy, check to see if the scanner assembly requires cleaning. If cleaning the scanner assembly does not correct the problem, service the product.

Ricoh MP 2500 copied documents have a line across top of page when fed into document feeder when document is scanned the line appears on the scanned version as well. line does not appear on...

Clean the scanner strip glass. This is the thinner strip of glass that runs from front to back right next to the large glass. This glass is only used when scanning/copying using the document feeder. The line you are seeing is because something has become stuck to the glass so when the documents are fed over the strip of glass, the scanner reads the stationary spot of debris as a solid line. Clean the glass very well using a cloth and some glass cleaner. I have seen something get under the glass as well but this is very rare. Rest assured tho that the line is being caused by something on this strip of glass.

On a scanned document there is a line down the right hand side as if there is a mark on the paper. This is not the case and is only showing on the scanned document. How do I rectify this?

This line is being caused by something stuck to your scanner glass. It simply needs to be cleaned. The scanner glass is going to be located in 1 of 2 places. Most common is location is just to the left side of the large scanner glass. So lift up your document feeder and look at the large glass where you may sometimes place an original to be scanned or copied. Now look just to the left of that glass. Do you see a much thinner "strip" of glass? If so then clean this strip glass with a soft cloth and a bit of glass cleaner or water. If there is no strip glass located here then it will be located inside of the feeder area where you documents are fed in to be scanned. These feeder units usually just pop open. If your documents go in face up the the strip glass will be on the upper portion. More common is the face down feeding which means the glass will be on the bottom. Sometimes a flashlight is handy here. Just open up the feeder unit and look for a thin strip of glass that runs from the front towards the back. It is about 1 inch wide. Once you locate it just clean it as mentioned above. Close everything back up and give it a try.
Eccentially what is happening here is that something has gotten stuck to the glass and since when scanning, the documents are "dragged" past this glass, anything that is stuck or stationary on the glass is read as a solid line.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Got a dark line down document when scanner via AFD

When you use the adf, the scanner remains stationary at the far left side of the platen. Check and make sure that the glass is very clean there; use a damp cloth to remove any dirt or other foreign material.
