What is the nutral position sinle jumper settings

Jumper Settings: The Western Digital hard drive is factory set for single drive installation. Western Digital hard drives are shipped with a jumper in the neutral storage position (across pins 5 and 3) for future dual drive use. If you are installing the Western Digital hard drive as the only hard drive in your system, leave the jumper in the neutral storage position. Jumpers are not required for single hard drive installations.

System can't find hard drive on main cable but it will run on the slave cable for the cd rom need to run on master how do i fix that? bryan thanks for any help

depending on your brand of hard drive if its western digital remove all jumpers and put on the master cable only, if it is alone,if there is another drive on the same cable then put jumper on master jumper which on western digital is in the center of the pin group,, your problem sounds like a jumper on the hard drive problem not a repair problem, i would look on the hard drive whichever brand and see jumper settings and make sure also that your jumper is good ,,,good luck I hope this helped

Hi i have a western digital wd1600 160gb hard drive last year i used the hirens boot disc to completely wipe my hard drive and repartition the drive but now when i try to use my western digital tools for...

Have you tried setting the jumpers on the new drive to CS (cable select) If you use that setting, the position of the drive on the cable determines whether it is master or slave. For example, the plug at theend of the IDE cable is the master and the plug in the middle of the cable would be slave. Just a suggestion. If you are using SATA, this does not apply.

To use the WD 800 as a master there must be no jumper attached to it.The maxtor has a diagram for the jumper and it MUST be set to slave not cable select.

My XP PC won't recognize portable Western Digital hard drives

Not sure how to help without knowing what hardware you're using to read the drives.
But here are a couple of links from WD that may prove helpful...here and here.or here.
I'd look for something similar on the support site for your device.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Need master slave configuration

Hello,

You should have a jumper configuration written somewhere on the front (up) side of the hard Disk ... Look there, or look just around the Pins... Look for M, S, CS (Master, Slave, Cable Select)
