Common problem. A friend's is giving him the silent treatment. Of all the reading I've done, it's related to a corrupted audio file. A reinstall of the system might help but a software update or firmware update most likely would provide a fix.

When driving no voice, check sound is fine

If you're just driving around and you haven't selected navigate to a destination there will not be a voice. Try navigating to a destination as that is where you will get voice navigation suggestions or commands. If you don't get a voice then, perhaps you need to download a voice or two. This can be done using the Garmin Express software and a computer connected to your Nuvi using the USB cord.

Hello,

The voice files must reside within specific folders before the Garmin will recognise them.

Please call Garmin Support for assistance.

My garmin 1490t have no sound.the sound is activated. thanks

I would suggest you install the latest updates from the Garmin WebUpdater, and then continue on in the WebUpdater to install English-Jill voice, and set your Garmin GPS to Auto/Car mode (not pedestrian mode), and set the voice to English-Jill, and hopefully your sound will work after that (mine did....).... :)

Deleted voice

Hello Sallilou,

If you deleted the voice files without backing them up you can try running the Garmin WebUpdater software. This program updates the operating software for your GPS and can be used to update maps and other files. It may be possible to reinstall the voice files using WebUpdater. (To download the WebUpdater software go here.)

Some of the Garmin products do have voice files available for download via the Garmin website. (Namely the Quest product.) However the Nuvi 200W does not appear to have such files immediately available for download.

If you aren't able to update the voice files this way I would suggest you give Garmin a call directly.

Best Regards,
Ken

Sound

If you lost "all" sound - click the speaker icon (bottom of screen) and make sure all volume is turned up. If you lost just the voice prompt for turns etc. This happens when you have an extended period of low battery. You need to reinstall the setup CD for the iQue 3600 go through the motions and HotSync the unit - This will reload your voice files.. Jerry ... gandg22@yahoo.com

Garmin C340 startup

The clue is that the voice is slowing and low pitch. The main processor time base has slowed... which means everything will be buggy.

First try would be to Reset the unit. Remove the face cover (GENTLY pry it loose by the fingernail groove directly under the GARMIN logo), press the RESET button, then reattach front cover... this is covered in the owners manual, available online.
If not, then it sounds like a hardware failure... time for a 1-800-800-1020 call (their customer service number)
