Question about Sampo PME-42S6 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television

Possible TV "Chop-Shop"

I recently took my Sampo 42S6 in for repair at a local shop. Before doing so I attempted to diagnose & fix the problem myself (no success). When I got the TV back 2+ months later, my mounting screws no longer fit. I took the back off of the TV, and it doesn't appear the same as it did before I took it in - many of the parts have a samsung label. I was told there was only 1 "ribbon" that needed replacing, and I'm worried that they may have "chopped" my TV for the parts. What I'm looking for is anyone who could upload a picture of the inside of the TV, or if anyone knows if samsung parts are common for this TV -- I just don't remember there being so many (if any at all). Also, the specs on the power source don't match up with the specs in the manual. Will provide an e-mail address if anyone can help.

Thanks for the reply. I know it's not a great TV, and Samsung is a reputable company, but my concern is whether they gave me old/outdated parts. The servicer ranks about a -3 on a scale of 1-10 as far as I'm concerned, and told me that only one "ribbon" was replaced - this looks like a completely new TV from the inside . . . something just doesn't add up.

Hyundai and I would be surprised is Sampo use Samsung parts. They may have mixed and matched compatible parts. The Hyundai I'm working on has almost Samsung everything. I wouldn't worry too much so long as the service place has a good reputation and stands behind their work. They may have replaced a video board that had different spec ratings.

How do I know which board is broken

Dont be intimidated. it could be nothing more than a bad capacitor. these are easy to change. capacitors are the round little barrel looking things sticking out from the control boards. when they are bad they look fat and bulged. remove the board replace any bad components and reconect. I know it sounds simple but it just might do the trick.

If all connections and the tuner have the same issue, you either have a power supply issue or a bad digital board.

Sampo PME-42S6 black screen

I have the exact same problem and sent an e-mail to Sampo in Taiwan today (March 3rd) with a technical explanation and description of the problem you have reported. I included information on the status of the LEDs inside the unit. My suspision is that the power distribution board has developed a fault. I am going to try to find out if a schematic is available to repair the board or if a new board can be purchased. I will provide an update when I have one. Glenn
