IBM T30 LCD replaced - now LCD display not right resolution

The original LCD of my 2633 was likely a 1280 x 768 and the LCD I put in to replace it appears to be a 1400 x..... The LCD display does not hold the entire contents of the display. Its as if the actual screen were about twice what the LCD could display. External works fine. Is there a way to correct this problem so the laptop-LCD display is usuable again? Right now the only way to make the machine useful is to use an external monitor.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that was something I had done on my own before. The resolution now is at the highest level the supported and that provides the most viewable LCD screen. Reducing the resolution only makes things bigger on the screen and reduces what is displayed. This is a problem between the LCD and the video board because the external monitor reacts well no matter what the resolution. I must have replaced the LCD with the larger resolution panel and now I have to live with the mistake.

You might want to Flash the BIOS with the latest revision if this is a newer LCD.

Yes you can do that by trying to set the sesolution settting.
Step for setting up screen resolution
1.Click start-->Settings-->Conteol Panel-->Display
2.Under Display Properties window click the last tab name settings
3.Below you should be able to see Screen Resolution
4.Try to adjust the resolution here.

** Please try to reduce the resolution ...or sometime add more resolution

IBM T30 screen has lines going through it the display already replaced the lcd.

I had the same laptop. Despite the fact that this has been the most reliable laptop for me, when it was on it's last leg I had the same problem as you.
Your problem is still probably a faulty LCD screen, but also likely is that your laptop is starting to die. If you want to try having a new LCD installed, that may fix the problem but do so knowing it may not fix it.
Thanks for using FixYa.

My ibm thinkpad t30 boots up but my monitor is blank

Do you hear any startup sound when you turn it on? If there is, try hooking an external monitor. If it has good display, replace LCD, if not then it may be a videocard problem. possible motherboard replacement will resolve this issue.

My T30 turns on but the screen doesnt work?

Try to attach EXTERNAL MONITOR to check if you have display from External Display and to confirm that your Laptop System is still working. If you got display from external monitor, therefore you have a faulty LCD / Inverter (gives your LCD a back-light)

Thinkpad t30 system turns on but no viseo display

Hi, This issue is clearly hardware and might be related to 3 part, Inverter card, LCD cable or LCD Panel ( Or systemboard, just to make sure try with an external display if the issue reproduce it's systemboard/graphic card related, if not LCD related ). If you are still entitled to warranty then this hardware failure is covered by the terms. You should have the 3 parts stated below replaced as it s a common issue with Thinkpads.
In case you are out of warranty cover you still can try to subscribe to a warranty extension, you can check on , otherwise you might want to order theses parts on a website such as ebay. To swap the pieces requires quiet advanced skills as you have to take down the whole computer, obviously LCD Panel included. Unfortunalty this is hardware related, not much you can do... I hope this help ! Thanks and have a nice day ! J -

Put the original memory back in and see if the laptop starts up. If it does, you may have chosen modules that were not designed for the laptop.

LCD blank on IBM T30 - 2366

You are lucky to have an external display! That means that your motherboard nor video card did not fry. Two possibilities here: the ribbon connector from the mobo to the lcd has been disconnected or your cathode tube/exciter is bad. You must have some electronic repair experience and laptops in particular for success here.   Every screw must be remembered as to its original location -lengths vary. ESD precautions must be observed (look that up if you don't know).  Follow the remove/replace procedures for the LCD and do not ever force anything. Here is a guide:
It is not difficult if you organize and use caution. Good luck, Steve Medley
