Forgotten password for wifi network

Which operating system ??
Your wireless Internet password is the encrypted security pass phrase that was set up when you installed your wireless router.

Your router allows you to access the Internet.
If you have access to more than one wireless network, you may need to remember multiple passwords.

If you happen to forget one password, you have two options: reset your password or locate the current password.

Windows 7 allows you to view the security characters of all your wireless network passwords.
Click the "Wi-Fi" network icon located on the Window's taskbar.

Right-click the name of your network's "SSID" name and select "Properties" from the drop-down menu.

Click the "Security Tab." The network security key is now visible but unreadable.

Click the "Show Characters" check box and this will reveal your wireless password.

or
Reset My WiFi Password

Wireless networking is a common feature in homes and offices.
Wireless routers provide access to a single Internet source, and wireless passwords ensure that only select users can access the network.

If a password is forgotten or lost, the password can be recovered or reset by accessing the router's Web-based settings menu.

Most wireless routers also have a reset button, which is capable of returning the router to its default settings which includes resetting the password.

Connect to your Wi-Fi or attach your computer directly to the router with an Ethernet cable.
Open your Web browser.

Enter the default address of your router.
The default address is listed in your user manual or on the product website.

Linksys and 3Com routers typically use "192.168.1.1" while Netgear routers use "192.168.0.1."
Enter your username and password.

Many routers use "admin" for the username and password by default.
Locate the wireless security settings. Disable the wireless security.

Reset to Factory Defaults

Locate the reset button on your router.
Typically the reset button is a small indented hole on the back of the device.

Insert a long thin object such as a paperclip and hold down the reset button for 30 seconds to revert the router to its factory default settings.

Locate the wireless security settings and add security as necessary.

Linksys router password

To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.
To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

Restoring the router to default using the web interface

You need to restore the factory defaults using the web interface. This may be because the router is not performing as expected or you wish to remove all previously configured settings.

Setup steps:

  1. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports on the router.
  2. Open a web browser on the computer.
  3. In the address bar of the web browser, type http://192.168.2.1

Cannot get into belkin load program to change password and code

If what you are referring to is a Belkin Wireless Router you may need to login from the Internet Explorer browser and type in the IP address of the router. Typical routers are set to 192.168.1.1 but if this does not work for yours you may need to do a few steps to find it...

1. Click on the start button on the desktop and click run...
2. type cmd and press enter
3. type ipconfig and press enter
there will be an entry that shows up that says 'Default Gateway' this will more than likely be the IP address you need to use to get to the login page for your router.

If the problem you are having is not actually getting to the router login but you don't know the password is... then you will have to do a hard reset of the router resetting everything back to the factory settings.

1. there will be a reset button on the back of the router
2. while the router is plugged in and the lights are on use something to push and hold the reset button in.
3. when... A. The lights on the box shut off. B. 5 - 10 seconds has passed...
4. pull out the power cord from the back of the box **WHILE STILL HOLDING THE RESET BUTTON IN**
5. now release the reset button and plug the power back in.
6. allow the router to preform its bootup and then attempt loggin in again.
**after doing the reset it will use the original logins as well for the router, typically...
Username: admin Password: password
Username: Password: admin

there may be other possible logins that it defaults to as well.

I need to change the password back to default on my wireless router. Model# WRT54G2

There is a small momentary reset switch on the back of the router, it is very small but clearly marked "Rest". With the router powered on, press and hold the switch in with a paper clip or similar small implement for at least 10 seconds and that will reset the router to default settings (no password), after which you can connect to the router open a browser and type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and to access your Linksys routers configuration/settings to be able to change settings and set a new WEP/WAP key.

You have to reset it to the original factory settings. Refer your owner's manual on how to reset. Usually there is a small pinhole switch which you need to keep pressed for about 5 seconds.

You will lose all settings and will have to configure your router again.
