Can you bypass the acer empowering password

The default password for that is 000000If that doesn't work, try a blank password, and there may be a hint to help you out.
If that doesn't work, you have to get something like the ultimate boot disk, and manually navigate and open a file on the hidden partition of the hard drive. The location of the file you want is:<root>\TOOLS\AIMDRS.DATIf you can open that file, you should be able to read the password.

I have a emachine el1200-06w, I was trying to restore my system to\r\na earlier update date. When I tried to do it it asked for a empowering technology password. How do fine out what this password is I do...

Hello, according to Acer's website the default password is 000000 (six zero's). If that does not work try the step below.

Booted with Ubuntu 10.10 Live Cd.
Browsed to PQSERVICE hidden partition.
Opened "aimsdrs.dat" with text editor. (in root folder not "tools")
and "password" PD= "____" and "hint" HD="____"
are given and can be edited.

Hope this helps!

How to restore 5100 acer lap top to factory settings. Hard drive is wiped out.

what do you mean that the hard drive has been wiped out? did you reinstall a new operating system on the PC? if that so & you still want to bring back all the software & settings that came originally with this PC then you can try this.

How to Restore Acer Aspire 5100 to Factory Setting
Open the "Start" menu, then click "All Programs" and place your mouse cursor over the folder labeled "Acer Empowering Technology." Select the "Acer Empowering Technology" icon from the folder.
Click the "Acer eRecovery Management" icon that is now on your desktop.
Click "Restore" at the bottom of the "Acer eRecovery Management" window.
Select "Restore system to factory default" from the "Restore" menu. The computer will restart and automatically begin the restoration process.

Acer empowering technology password recovoryThe password is store

Hi.. to find the aimdrs.dat, it is located at PQSERVICE drive/root folder. In my laptop, it is on drive x:\. Please check the drive for the location in your computer. You can access the PQSERVICE, For example:
- go to command prompt (Click start, run, type: cmd)
- type: " x: " (without " ")
- type: " dir " (you will see the file of aimdrs.dat is there)
- you can copy the file to any location.
for example to external flash drive which is in drive f:\
type: copy aimdrs.dat f:\ (the aimdrs.dat file will be copied to your new location, flash disk in drive f:\
- you can open the flash disk and open the aimdrs.dat file by right click on the file and choose open with notepad or wordpad. You will see the password in there. It will say "PD=it's your password".

That's what I was doing with my Acer laptop to get the empowering technology password. I hope you can solve the problem. Good luck.

Won't Power On!

My brother had the same problem with his machine. On doing some research online I came across this site:

It gave the following 2 solutions to the problem. The first one workedfor a while but then we had to try the second and this seems to havesolved the problem.

Solution 1
No Power or Will not boot
If the unit will not turn on and has no power:
  1. Verify that the power cord is plugged both into the unit and an electrical socket.
  2. If it is plugged into a power strip or surge protector verify that the power strip or surge protector is turned on.
  3. Try another power outlet.
  4. Unplugthe power cable from the unit, hold the power button on the unit downfor 30 seconds. Release the power button and plug the power cord backinto the unit. Try to turn it back on.
If the unit has power but does not boot into Windows:
  1. Turn the unit off and unplug the power cord from the unit.
  2. Hold the power button on the unit down for 30 seconds.
  3. Release the power button and plug the power cord back into the unit.
  4. Turn the unit on.

Solution 2

  5. Click on Restore system to factory default.
  6. The unit will restart and start the restore.
It should state "Please wait a moment..." with the Acer logo in the upper left hand corner.
  7. At the eRecovery Management menu it will ask you how to restore.
Click on the restore option you would like to use.
How to recovery your system from bootup
  1. Locate the Alt key, to the left of the space bar, and F10, on the top row of keys.
  2. Power the system on.

Acer Aspire 3620-factory settings

Acer's ship with the factory recovery built into the system. As long as this has not been deleted you should be able to do it.

Click and Start - > All programs

and look for Acer Empowering Technology

Inside that folder there should be a few different programs (dont' have my acer here so i can't remember the names exactly). One of them will allow you to reset from the harddrive and another one will allow you to make your own recovery disks. I would do this first as that way you have a disk that you can put away in the closet in case your harddrive ever dies and needs to be replaced. If that is the case you NEED the disks as the new harddrive would not be setup to do it for you.
