you should completely un install the office suite before installing it again. If you can, I would greatly suggest, using the last good restore point before the main crash, this will put the registry back to original too.

Run MSN without Java on your PC. Click on 'Options', then the 'General' tab. De-select the 'Run Windows Today Page when I start Messenger".

Now you can re-install Java and MSN will no longer crash, and it no longer tries to load the conflicting news page.

I'd suggest there is a possible hardware error. You need to get into the bios and check the temperatures they'll be under 'system health' or similar. Also might be worth running a ram check. Download 'windiag' it's a microsoft program designed to check your ram and it is very good.
