I would like to load up to 5 CDs and have it play randomly selected tracks from among all the CDs. All I can get it to do is randomly select tracks from only one CD even though up to 5 CDs may be loaded in the carousel. How does one program the DVP-NC85H so that up to 5 CDs can be loaded and it will play randomly selected tracks from among all the CDs in the carousel? Also, is there a way to make such a setup the default play mode, or does it have to be re-programed each time I use it?

you can shuffle within a cd but not between or among cd's for the reason stated above. This is a shame actually because I had a 5 disc cd player a few years ago that would shuffle among the cd's and the tunes. It appears that once the functiond for DVD's were added that grand little shuffle feature went out the window.
The tray won't open. I took top off and dvd top side holder, but the laser mechanism won't disengage so the tray will open, even with no dvd in it. How do
I reset it. I power on, hit open key, it makes hum noise then goes by to
If it plays everything except HD DVDs, then the player needs to have it's software updated. Not sure how this is done. You may have to contact the manufacturer, or return it to the store you bought it from.
If it has problems playing all discs, then the laser may be dirty or out of alignment.
Buy a cd/dvd cleaner and try it. These are simply discs that have a little area on them that you put a drop of cleaning solution and then insert into the player.
If you are mechanically inclined, you can try opening up the player and using some rubbing alcohol on a Qtip to clean the laser lens (if it is accessible).
