try to stop the sheet just before it enters the fuser and see if the marks are on the paper already. if not then it has to be the fuser if they are them you have another issue.
How is the printer printing black and yellow color? Is it a smudge?
When I print, the pages are smudged with ink. What should I do?
Description:
- If smudged stains appear at the top center of the printed page:
Make sure the paper is not too thick or curled. Also, verify that the appropriate paper is being used and that the paper type set in the machine matches the media used.
Make sure the paper is not curled when you print on the back side of the paper with the Print Odd Pages and Print Even Pages settings.
- If smudged stains appear at the right or left corner of the printed page:
Make sure the paper is not curled when you print on the back side of the paper with the Print Odd Pages and Print Even Pages settings.
- If smudged stains appear on the reverse side or at the bottom of the page: NOTE: Illustrations shown below are from the representative product and may differ from your Brother machine.
Make sure the printer platen is not dirty with ink.
How to clean the machine's printer platen
Unplug the machine from the AC power outlet.
Lift the scanner cover until it locks securely in the open position.
Clean the machine's printer platen(1) and the area around it, wiping off any scattered ink with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

What colour are the smudges, if they are one colour you can try changing that colour toner cartridges. Failing this then it sounds as if you may need a new drum
Try performing a test by printing a test page from Tray 1 and open the top cover as soon as the paper is 60% inside. The paper would jam below the toner cartridge before it reaches the fuser. Remove the toner cartridge carefully and verify if the smudges occur. This would eliminate the fuser. If the print quality is fine, then you need to swap the fuser.
- Try to reallign the cartridge, run a print test, after that if the issue still persist - uninstall and reinstall software - run test and re-allign again the cardtridge using software. run print test again.
I need more specific info. Where is the ink: on one side only or all across the page. On the top only or all down the page. Does it look like smudges or spatter.
Try Cleaning the printheads. you usually have a utilitie to do this in :- Printer preferences. Also try several Print test Pages. It appears that your getting a surge of ink, at the initial printing stage. use standard paper to do all tests with. 1:- it,s cheaper. 2:- it,ll help soak-up any surplus ink. whereas the glossy paper does,nt soak it up too well. If these solutions don,t help. check HPs site for fault diagnosing and repairing.
Hope this helps you in the right direction.
