Coffee maker not brewing after changing water filter

Kenmore Elite 14 cup programmable coffee maker

It was time to change the charcoal filter & clean my coffee maker. I did so. But then when I went to make a pot of coffee...the coffee maker did not brew. All the lights come on but the water is flowing through the coffee maker.
I tried to hit the reset button...I took the filter back out and put it back in...and hit reset again.
Nothing.

    I meant to say the lights come on but the water does NOT brew...typo on my part.

  • MamaDeLance Apr 29, 2008

    There isn't a grinder on mine...is there another piece on the pot that I should check, too?

  • MamaDeLance Apr 30, 2008

    My coffee maker doesn't have a grinder. It is only 3 or 4 months old. This is the first time I had to clean it and replace the charcoal filter since the initial time. I unplugged it overnight but it still doesn't work.
    Like I said the lights come on but it doesn't brew. It doesn't make the noise that it is going to start brewing either.

  • MamaDeLance Apr 30, 2008

    NO, I can't even flush it through w/ plain water to see if something is jammed.

  • MamaDeLance Apr 30, 2008

    There is no warranty on it...I bought it off of eBay.
    My husband fixes small electronics and things sometimes...but never a coffee pot. I should tell him to check the heating element?

    Thank-you.

    Do you know where you can buy a new heating element?
    sears quit selling this model.

    I can't return it.

Hi,

with the indulgence of mlake33...

Other than suggesting that you redo everything again and verify that all the parts were placed back as they should be, anything else like opening the inside for a look and see might void your warranty considering that the appliance is only 3~4 months since from initial indication, the heater element or its associated parts/circuitry might be the issue.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Your best bet would be to return said appliance to your dealer for a replacement. This is taking into consideration that:
1. everything lights up as they should;
2. no action(s) were performed other than prescribed cleaning/maintenance;
3. there is water inside to prescribed level;
4. everything works except that it doesn't brew which therefore indicates that it is not heating.

    Hi again,

    If for some reason you prefer not to return to your dealer the Kenmore Elite 14 cup programmable coffee maker and/or you are considering a DIY, pls post back with the exact model number that is stenciled on the identification nameplate usually at the bottom or the rear of the appliance. Please note that the label Kenmore Elite 14 is not a model number but a marketing identity. The reason is that the Kenmore is a Sears label but the actual appliance itself may have been manufactured for Sears by a different company. A model number example is "336.96717130".

    Cheers.

Yo, Mama,

when you cleaned the unit, did anything get left behind, like a piece of cloth, or crud?

    ok..the noise comes from the water hitting the heating element..and if it's not flushing through, then there's something obstructing the line..got any pipe cleaners?

    Maybe call customer service and get it fixed.

After taking out the filter basket and all the moveable parts, how do you clean the coffee maker itself?

You actually have to put the parts back in place (except the charcoal water filter and any paper filter you may or may not be using), pour in 2 cups distilled white vinegar and two cups water, and brew the vinegar/water solution just like it was coffee. Vinegar is very acrid, so you will then need to brew plain water to flush out the vinegar. Now, you can put everything back in place, and you are good to go. Remember - if one part is out of place, your coffee maker may beep at you incessantly.

Cleaning light came on and now, coffee pot will not work

Automatic clean function
The coffee maker is equipped with an automatic clean function. After 60 brewing cycles, the clean indicator/button (22) lights up. This indicates coffee maker should be cleaned by using the automatic clean function and the charcoal filter (17) should be replaced.
NOTE: The coffee maker can continue to be used, when clean indicator/button (22) is on.
• To begin the cleaning cycle, remove the charcoal filter (17) from the water tank (10). Fill the tank with a vinegar and water mixture (1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water) or a descaling product. Press clean (22) button for three seconds. The clean indicator/button (22) flashes and the cleaning process begins.
Cleaning process:
• 24 cycles of 7 seconds brewing and 21 seconds off
• 30 minutes rest
• Brewing the remaining descaling solution
• After cleaning process is complete the clean indicator/button (22) goes off. Fill water tank (10) with clean water and run one brewing cycle to rinse the coffee maker.
• Change the charcoal filter (17) (ill. k). Reinsert the charcoal filter to the coffee maker (ill. l).
NOTE: You can use the cleaning function before reaching 60 cycles (especially if the water hardness is above normal). Press and hold clean indicator/button (22) for 3 seconds.
NOTE: The Cleaning Process takes 60 minutes to complete. You cannot cancel the cleaning process before it is complete. Unplugging the machine only delays the cleaning process.

Incomplete brew

Sometimes you have to do the decalcification two or three times. Then, monthly after that.

Cuisinart Coffeemaker Decalcification Process

Run 2 cups distilled white vinegar and 2 cups water through the system - brew it like it was regular coffee. Then run plain water through the coffemaker to rinse the vinegar out and make sure the decalcification was successful. Repeat as needed. Don't forget to remove the charcoal water filters first.
