Printing question marks on the receipt paper

When we go to process a sale it prints a ton of questions marks all over the receipt. I tried to mess around with the dip switch settings but that didn't work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No, it is connected to a POS system. Is there a dip switch setting that might need to be changed?

hmmm...????? marks? that's unusual..that most likely comes from a keypad error, not a firmware issue..is that machine connected to something that may be 'stuck' on a ? mark?

Yes change baud rate. On the Ellix printer I have it's a matter of turning three of the little switches inside the paper holder. Look up the service manual.

Receipt ON/OFF function

You can disable receipt printing in the REG mode to save paper using the receipt ON/OFF function. To disable
receipt printing, press the Rkey in the OP X/Z position. This key toggles the receipt printing status ON and
OFF.
To check the receipt printing status, turn the mode switch to the OP X/Z position or press the lkey in the REG
mode. When the function is in the OFF mode, the receipt off indicator “_” illuminates.

The register will print reports regardless of the receipt state, so the paper roll must be installed.
"To issue a receipt when receipt ON/OFF function is set to OFF:
If your customer wants a receipt after you finalized a transaction with the receipt ON/OFF function in the OFF
mode, press the Rkey. This will produce a receipt. If more than 50 items were entered, the receipt will be
issued in a summary receipt format. Your register can also print a copy receipt when the receipt ON/OFF
function is in the “ON” status."

Won't print

If the roll is feeding, but not printing, you may have the paper backwards, or wrong paper. If it is not feeding, you may have the receipt turned off.
If this doesn't help, please supply more information.

Casio TK2300 - receipt printing

Hi. It sounds like you have the receipt switch in the on mode. You'll probably find it can only do two receipts when they are called up when in receipt off mode, so slide the switch to off, then make a sale. at the end of the sale, press the receipt button once. Wait for print, then press it again. you can program it for a third if needed by doing the procedure I gave you, but use a 3 in place of the 2.

Hmm. That is almost NEVER a paper problem, so forget about that.
It is always difficult to diagnose head problems without seeing the machine.
It can be a dirty thermal head, but that's not common unless something has been spilled on it. If you want to try cleaning the head, open the printer, and find the head. It is usually a small aluminium block that clamps against the paper when the printer is closed. it will always sit against the front of the paper. On that block, you will see tiny lines all very close together. They go to a connector at one end, and a thin black line at the top of the head. Wipe this black line firmly with a dry cotton bud.

Here is a picture of a thermal head:

http://www.jarltech.co.uk/ger_new/new/pix/products/web/printhead.jpg

Just above the light brown strip, you can just see the black line. This is what you would rub clean.

Otherwise, make sure the paper is clamping hard against the head while closed. If the clamp is not pressing with the same force at both ends of the head, then you will miss some printing. Try pressing against the back of the paper at the head while it prints, and see if it prints any more than before, then you know if your'e on the right track.

Hope this helps.

Mark.
