How can i install windows 2000 in a dell optiplex 3020?

If you want a clean install just format your XP drive. Then boot with your 2000 cd in the drive. Make sure it is bootable and your bios is set to boot from cd.

Will not boot cannot get to safe mode if I do a recovery will I lose all data files, not going to do advanced

from my exp recovery CD is of no use at all....if ur OS is corrupted.....use a WinXP install CD and boot from that. to do that...insert the CD in the CD/dvd drive and switch on...if the boot seq in BIOS is set to CD drive then it will boot first from that else it will boot from HD...so if u can get into BIOS by pressing the F1/F2/Del key etc and change the boot seq to the foll:
1st boot CD rom
2nd boot Floppy
3rd boot HDD0

u can even just disable 2nd and 3rd apart from keeping 1st boot to CD rom
if u have more than one HD or more than one partition in ur HD then u can install a new fresh Win XP in that and once that's done then change the boot seq back to HDD0 from CDROM drive in the 1st boot order
it will get back ur machine live then u can copy all ur imp files to a pen drive or CD then once u r safe of ur data u can do a low level format of the full HD and then aprtition that as per ur requirment

hi there.
you need to change the first boot device in the "cmos setup" or when you boot your computer before it gets to that stage watch the lower bottom line of your machine there are some instructions to go to the cmos setup Toshiba is either F9 or F12. alternatively at this same stage choose the instruction temporary boot device and and move the highlighting to CD/DVD/DVR and click enter to start the computer from the cd rom
it will work.
thanks

Reformating

You need to have a windows vista dvd or a recovery/restore cd from Acer. CD-less installation will only work if your computer has a restore image which should be installed in the factory. I dont think acer dekstops have that though.

Just call Acer and ask for a vista dvd or see if you know someone who owns a computer which came with the same version of vista and borrow their dvd.

There are programs to hack windows xp password. But often they do not work or cause more trouble to your system. The solution is doing a new windows setup without formatting the HD and without deleting all system file and user setting. To do this reinstall win using a different folder or try using recovery cd with partial recovery (be careful not to delete all data if you use recovery cd. Generally in this case is better to use a generic windows cd for a temporary installation, to recover your data. after a new system is installed you may get your data back from folder C:\Documents And Settings\......

good luck

Reformat/Reinstall Refresh on hdd

You should provide either CD/DVD rom to boot your sytem in bootable disc.
And you should provide windows XP/2000 bootable disk.

You will need:

CD/DVd Rom
Bootable windowsxp/2000 to reinstall your system.

Note; reformatting or reinstalling your system all files will be remove. you should back up important files before doing.
