Dell inspiron 1720 reboots randomly

hi,
my system reboots with no obvious cause. 2 or 3 times an hour. dell support signed on the system and defragged my drive and disabled a lot of startup programs but no change. Hardware or vista?

Thanks for trying!
My laptop is new (Dec). Have antivirus scanned with nothing found (Norton & trend micro). Am always connected via wireless. Laptop is continually plugged in. Was sent back to dell once. They replaced memory and optical drive. Maybe I just have a lemon?

there are several reasons why a pc restarts: 1. there might be a virus that causes this, thry to scan your computer using the updated anti virus. 2. your power supply might be faulty, if your pc frequently restarts the 12volts supply is having a problem, you need to replace the power supply. 3. operating system error, you need to repair your OS. what i have suspected from the problem you relayed is that your power supply, you need to replace this.
