Hello! My mom got a silver 2GB 2nd generation nano iPod recently in a lost&found auction. All it came with is the actual iPod and the headphones.
I've pressed all the buttons, the middle one, and the outside circle part and can't turn it on. I've done the same thing changing the "hold" part. What am I doing wrong? How can I turn on my iPod screen and start putting music in it?

To sync games automatically to iPod nano, connect your iPod to your computer. Then...
1) In iTunes, select iPod nano in the source list and click the Games tab. 2) Select “Sync games.” 3) Click “All games” or “Selected games.” If you click “Selected games,” also select the games you want to sync. 4) Click Apply.
You need a new battery for your iPod. you can view a free instructional video on battery replacement at the first web address posted below. the second one is a cheap site I found for purchasing iPod parts.

I would go ahead and do a system restore - this is a separate method from the resetting all settings. The restore will delete all songs and hoepfully replace any key system files that may have been lost, just in case too many were loaded onto player initially.
Try the Five R's suggested by your user's manual - you can get the manual from Apple's website if you have lost it: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem
with your iPod nano. If one of the following doesn’t help, read on for solutions to
specific problems. â Reset your iPod nano.
See “General Suggestions,” below. â Retry with a
different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes. â Restart your computer
and make sure you have the latest software updates installed. â Reinstall iPod and iTunes
software from the latest versions on the web. â Restore your iPod nano.
See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” on page whatever.

Comon problem in the 1st and 2nd Gen Nano's, the only way to fix it is to buy a new hold switch and replace it (its actually quite and easy repair (just a small screw and a ribbon cable) if your feeling brave you can buy the hold switch here (I just found it online, I don't represent the seller in any way)
you can find a ton of you tube videos on how to take the nano apart without breaking it...its really not so bad
