yes, it just started last week when i was dowloading my cd's for my mp3 player when it started to skip and act up...now regardless of what i play (dvd/cd) the same result, however one odd thing is that after i click to open the drawer just before it opens the skip seems to stop for a second

It sounds like some dust or hair has landed on the Laser Lens (The component responsible for reading the data on the CD) and is interfering with the playback , to clean this your self you will need a laser lens cleaning kit to safely remove the debris.

You should be able to purchase a kit from the Best buy in Toronto
65 Dundas Street West, Toronto+1 416-642-8321 , that's their details.

If you're finding that after cleaning the disk the DVD is still skipping try cleaning the cd , as debris on the CD itself can also cause interference for the laser lens. if you end up needing

You would ask for a "Slim DVD Notebook Drive" , if the technician asks if you would like IDE or SATA you will want IDE , this is just referring to the type of connection used to connect it to the motherboard.

if that's ok, then you have a bad cd player installed..they are not that pristine actually(sort of like the old floppies of olden times)

Need help with Compaq Presario v2000 drivers

Your DVD drive is missing the Burning Program not the driver. I found an update for your windvd software for windows 7 but you probably have to have the full program installed to run the update. Hope this helps.

Presario V2000 WIDESCREEN, DVD drive not read or write DVDs

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the notebook in question doesn't have a DVD drive. After looking at driver for that model, it appears it's only a CD capable machine. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Look at the drive, are there any markings on it, i.e. a "DVD-ROM" or a "DVD" logo? How about a "CD-R" or CD-R/W" logo? If it does not have any type of DVD logo, then it's not DVD capable.

My dvd rom wont play dvd only cd's

DVD/CD players use two different lasers. One to read DVD and one to read CD. Sounds like your DVD laser burned out. Lasers last about as long as light bulbs do.

Try installing a DVD rom. The sony unit installed in your laptop is a cd rom/burner. Cd roms will not play DVDs.

DVD WONT PLAY IN LAPTOP BUT I CAN BURN AND PLAY AUDIO C'DS. I HAVE A COMPAQ PRESARIO V2000. WHEN I INSERTED DVD IT SAYS NO DVD INSERTED I CLEANED THE PLAYER AND STILL DOESN'T WORK CAN ANYONE HELP

Hi damonabrown your laptop should play dvd's even if it can't burn them

as you have cleaned the drive there is not much else you can do ,as it still play's cd's,
data on a dvd is packed much closer as it hold about 6 times the data of a cd, and can fail much easier, it looks like a new drive will be needed soon.

good luck

CD/DVD intermitent audio

CD's and DVD's has different speeds try to check your dvd player/rom if it is compatible with your cd/dvd disk. Some dvd players are sensitive it will not play perfectly if your cd's are scratched. try to use new cd's. It might work.
