Hopefully just a bad thermostat, or head gasket leak, possible a crack in either block or head. Is there white foam on the oil check dipstick? Or same type foam in radiator? The foam indicates oil/water mix usally from head gasket.

Need to seal the leak in the coolant container with epoxy or by replacing the coolant container.

Fill coolant system with 50/50 solution up to 2 gallons may be required to stop the overheating.

Don't drive an overheated engine.

SOURCE: I have no visible leaks yet the car is losing coolant?

It sounds to me like you may have a blown head gasket, the water may be going out the exhaust, perform a compression test on each cylinder.

Take it to a shop and ask them to put it up on a lift, take a look and figure out where it is leaking. They can tell you and also how much to fix.

Jeep Cherokee stopped and leaked water and will not start

water, is it clear or green or to be more accurate.
is the water on the ground (its on ground right?) same color
as the engine coolant.????????
my guess is you overheated engine. (never drive leaking or overheating or unlimited engine damage can happen)

or it lost water and overheated.
1: check all fuses.
2: is the CEL lamp glowing key on, if not , it will not start, (lamp good)

btw2: make sure coolant is 50% Antifreeze at all times. or worse will happen.

Can you please let me know my car overheated and the container that we supposted to put the coolant is like a plastic container what is the name because one of the corner melt away so could it be replace?

The overheating of the car can be due to many reasons and you need to check on each one to confirm the working of the system. The container name is the OVERFLOW/COOLANT TANK.
1. In the first place the working of the engine must be assessed. it must be smooth with a good indication that the tuning timing and the power seems good. This will confirm that the settings of the engine is good and so there is less scope that the engine seems to heat up on its own.
2. Secondly the radiator pressure cap must be tight and good, the radiator MUST not loose coolant after a run or in a few days time- since this must be a sealed system and there is no scope of water overflow or loss unless there is a leak- sometimes the leak is too microscopic as under high pressure only steam might escape and so reduce the coolant. So check for leaks while the engine is hot , specially the radiator, the hose or the fittings.
3. The working of the water pump must be good to ensure a good flow and circulation, so check for leak in the water pump, check for presence of water in the exhaust or leaking on the engine gaskets.
4.Make sure that the coolant is good and clean if not drain and refill , if there is presence of rust please have a good flushing of the radiator or else the chances are that the radiator ports can be blocked and reduce the efficiency of the cooling .
5. Finally the cooling fan, the radiator fan must be working, check the thermostat/thermistor to work accordingly with good flow, have a good water jet wash on the radiator for a clean radiator cooling fin exposure.

Overheating and grinding noises

First thing you need to do is zero in on where the coolant is leaking out,and where oil is going. Sure sounding like a head gasket, or worse. What engine& mileage?

99 Cadillac Deville Coolant Leak

Most likely a cracked block or free plug that came out or loose. Other options are hozes, which I believe the dealer would have fixed. A third option is the water pump itself.

I don't have the owner's manual. The reservoir says ''Engine Coolant'' and it is empty; engine overheating. Is there a special fluid to use or can I just use plain water? Thanks

U need to use 50/50 mixture of long life/extendedlife coolant availible from any automotive parts store for around $8 per gallon. but you must have a leak, check for coolant leaking when the car is running, don't overheat this engine or u will blow the cylinder head gasket, a $1000.00 repair.

Overheating

Hi,
If the car is overheating it could be due to a thermostat which is stuck in the closed position, a failed water pump or just a slack belt driving it. I think there will be a "little" tube carrying coolant from the engine to the coolant expansion tank, and if you run the engine with the filler cap removed you should see water coming through that pipe IF the rump is running. A failed water pump will not necessarily leak, it just won't pump the water round the engine.

Always take care when dealing with a pressurised cooling system on an overheating engine - the water may well be above boiling point.

If you run the engine without coolant the cylinder head may well warp and repair bill will be huge.

Hope this helps you a bit. D
