HELP!!! my portable DVD player isn't charging correctly
I have a Curtis DVD8017 and it is fairly new. I plug it in and it says it is charging and then several hours later, I try using it and it works for a few minutes but then shuts off as if it is sucking up huge amounts of power per second. It has been happening non stop for over a month. When I plug it into the car adapter, it plays until I unplug it. When it is plugged into any outlet other than the car, it does not work.

If it is under warranty, then try to get another battery from the company or you can get another battery yourseld on ebay like item number 250261738286. When rechargeable battery operated devices act like this, it is most likely due to a battery that just does not charge to full capacity because it is old (I did take not that you mentioned that it is fairly new) or just bad. Let us know know how it goes.

From Curtis' website: "Q: Where can I purchase a replacement DVD battery? Replacement portable DVD batteries can be purchased for $30 from Curtis International Ltd. Please mail a certified check or money order (payable to Curtis International Ltd) to 315 Attwell Drive, Etobicoke, Ontario M9W 5C1, ATTN: Customer Service Department. Make sure to include your name, complete mailing address, phone number with area code, model number of your unit and part required. "
Weigh you options....a new portable DVD player can be bought for not much more.
I think the DVD Player was made for Target, you might be able to go there and find one and get the info off the power supply (charger) and take the unit and the info to Radio Shack for a replacement. If they can not help try calling MCM Electronics at 1-800-543-4330
Give it a about 24 hours. It might need to declimatize. Also, thry charging the battery pack first and/or try turning it on with the power adapter only (battery pack off the unit). If this does nothing, they to get or borrow a voltmeter to make sure the power adapter is giving out a votage. This will troubleshoot wether it is the unit or the adapter. Let us know how it went.
Try cleaning the DVD lens with a cotton swab moistened with isopropyl alcohol. The DVD lens is what emits the laser from the unit. Let it dry and try again. Also try using a different DVD. Let us know if it worked and don't forget to rate me :)
Try playing Different DVDs, Second Make sure which Region Disk your playing is it Region 1 or Region 2, If your DVD player is Manufactured in USA it plays only Region 1, If its manufactured in UK it plays only Region 2, If still you face same problem Use Lens Cleaner, If still you face same problem do Reset. To Reset Dvd player, Remove DVD from Dvd Player, Unplug Power chord from Walloulet for 15minutes so player goes to Defult Factor Settings, Then plug back again Power chord. Turn on Dvd player insert DVD, It should Play or else Claim Warranty.
