Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

Vacuflo 260. All of a sudden not working. Something smells like it's burning. As opposed to the motor...could it be a faulty switch (how's that for optomism?)?

If it is an electrical smell, then it is probably the motor, a switch is possible tho. If it is a rubber smell, then it is the belt slipping, replace it, and check the brush roll, the ends should turn easily.

Is there something stuck inside, underneath, being turned along with the motor? burning smell usually means something got caught and the belt snapped. Not expensive and don't know if it's an easy DYI. Shouldn't cost too much to have it repaired or you can google the brand and model and the word belt, see what you find.

Burning smell is NOT good. Sounds like an electrical short in the motor field windings. You'll have to take the machine apart to locate where the damage occurred and see what can possibly be repaired or needs to be replaced.

the belt that drives the beater bar may have broken. If you noticed a burned rubber smell it was the belt and you can find the part number in your book that came with your machine.

Try replacing the belt. My vacuum cleaner had the same problem and once the belt was changed the burning smell was gone.
