Pls,i have a nc6000 Hp laptop of 40GB Hard disk, 1500MHz processor and a 256MB RAM which i added 512MB RAM to upgrade to 768MB RAM. It started to freeze/hang and prompting the mouse cursor to...

from the off position, turn on, continuously hit the F8 key to force the startup menu, select last known good configuration and reboot. If this does not work, do the F8 thing again, and select safe mode. If you cannot reboot, you will have to do a clean reinstal using your factory recovery CD. If you can get into safe mode, immediately start saving your files to whatever media device you can.

go to start/run and type cmd and hit enter - type in chkntfs /c e and hit enter, reboot. This will start and system checking procedure on bootup. Again, if this does not fix things you will have to boot from your recovery CD.

Good luck!

Hi,

This is possible due to an virus/trojen. I recommed you to try the below steps.

1. Update you virus definitions up-to-date
2.restart the machine in safe mode by pressing F8,
3.Scan the machine and restart to normal mode and try out

Note: i can suggest Avast antivirus which has the capability to clean at the boot sector of such rids.

My a6700y has developed a startup problem. it takes about 15 minutes from start to desktop. blank screen and no cursor until then. I have also had issues with freezing and applications not responding and...

Restart your computer. Press F8 several times while it's booting up. This should get you a text screen that allows several Safe Mode boot up options. In safe mode, you have access to only basic files and drivers (mouse, monitor, keyboard, mass storage, base video, default system services, and no network connections). You can choose the Safe Mode with Networking option, which loads all of the above files and drivers and the essential services and drivers to start networking, or you can choose the Safe Mode with Command Prompt option, which is exactly the same as safe mode except that a command prompt is started instead of the graphical user interface. You can also choose Last Known Good Configuration, which starts your computer using the registry information that was saved at the last shutdown.

Safe mode helps you diagnose problems. If a symptom does not reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and minimum device drivers as possible causes. If a newly added device or a changed driver is causing problems, you can use safe mode to remove the device or reverse the change.

Hp pavilion freezes at startup

Will it start in SAFE mode? Reboot and press F8 before Windows loads. This will give a small menu about different SAFE modes and Normal mode. Select SAFE mode and allow system to start. If the system starts fine then you have corrupted drivers and/or a virus which is corrupting your drivers. Download AVGFREE.exe, MALWAREBYTES.exe and SUPERANTISPYWARE.exe and run these. Now goto START, Run and type SFC/scannow and have your original disks handy because any corrupted drivers will have to be replaced. Now try to reboot into NORMAL mode. If OK you're done. If not OK or even in SAFE mode all you see is the cursor then the laptop needs to go to a reputable repair person or check my website www.micromendllc.com

Vista boots just Black screen with cursor even in safe mode

Yes, this is a known issue with Vista. You need to back-up your data, format your hard drive and re-install Vista from the beginning.
There is really no use trying to repair it: it is damaged.
After you re-install Vista, do not forget to install service packs from microsoft.com.

Freezing in 'safe mode'

Have you tried accessing the bios to set boot order? It may be trying to load from the hdd before the optical/usb drive.

During the flash screen, press F2 (though it can vary by maker) and change your boot order to load the USB drive first.

Hope this helps!

It will boot up to the windows screen and freezes. There is no mouse control.

WIN XP ONLY!

Upon booting, beofre Windows Logo, press F5 key to get computer to boot into SAFE MODE/Administrator. See if you have mouse control under this mode. If yes, then there's a good chance that the mouse is OK .

once in SAFE MODE and are able to regain mouse, the chances are good that you can just restart the computer and everything will return to "normal".

Suggestion #1: reboot computer to NORMAL after having sucessful SAFE MODE mouse test.

Suggestion #2: see if you have a recovery point (system restore) before the mouse issue came about.
