Yamada DVD 2100

By Bray - usenet poster

" "
Hi just bought a Umax Yamada DVD-2100

Lovely machine - will play anything under the sun (just about) one thing
which is really awful though is that when you zoom in the on screen display
2x (or 4X etc) remains and I cannot get rid of it. Since I do not have a
widescreen telly and since most dvd's are in wide screen 2.33 aspect ratio
I normally have to view the dvd zoomed in at 2X and the display is a real
pain. I have tried all buttons to get rid of it but with no success. Please
does anyone know how to zoom in and then stop the onscreen display showing
the rate of zoom?

All replies appreciated

Thanks

David

To enable the preferences menu, turn the machine on without a disc in,then
choose menu, and the preference menu will be selectable, although there is no
way (as far as I have found) to remove the on screen display. That ,and the
fact that the when you pause a movie the icon stays on screen as
well...looks crappy when you record onto VHS and have the pause and then
play icons showing!!!

It really is a terrific little DVD player and I agree for ??65 it is a
bargain. I am burning all my holiday snaps to CD now. I love the way the DVD
actually recognises folders as well as pictures and MPEGS. However must
admit the zoom issue really bugs me. Can't believe the designers were that
foolish. By the way anyone know how to activate the menu which is locked?
maybe there is something there for this issue?

Thanks

David

Did that - so password is off - but the "preferences" is still greyed out???
Doing my head in this simply want to remove a really stupid display - why on
earth should anyone want to watch a DVD with "2X" showing on the picture??

Do you know of a tech help line offering support which I can phone - having
looked on the internet I can't really see any (other than the Umax.co.UK
site which is of no help whatsoever)

Thanks

David

i have 1 of these players, i bought it for my dad but after testing it at
home kept it for myself due to its capability of playing unauthored mpeg
files of all kinds, plus mp3s and jpegs. its also multi region, and it plays
the audience with kevin smith dvd which i hear is supposedly rce, basically
it plays everything and its only ??65 and it dont look bad either. the only
small niggle is its not got a digital optical output, its got coaxil
instead, but not a problem for me.  the zoom thing is a lil niggly, but my
previous player had a similar function

have you tried going into the settings and putting it on pan and scan
settings?  i noticed one disc i played was squashed onscreen until i told my
player i had a widescreen tv and that sorted it. i have a nonwidescreen 28"
tv but i watch it with the black bars

if anyone is interested you can get this player from www.121cdr.co.uk and
there is reviews on dvdrecordable.org and i think on dvdrhelp.com .
