SOURCE: my lexmark x4975 will connect by USB but will not
With the wifi light off, it's not possible to make wireless connection go through. The wifi light should light up orange before configuring it to work wireless. Try this, press Settings(wrench icon) > Network/Wireless Setup, then Ok > Reset Network Adapter, then Ok. Wait for the wifi light to show up orange in few seconds. If no go, unplug the power supply(the black box behind the printer where the power cord is attached). Wait for 10-15 seconds before plugging it back in the printer. If you need more assistance, leave a comment and I'll get back to it. Thanks.

Is is a wifi connection? What type of connection do you use? Adhoc or infrastructure(meaning does it pass through the wifi router or direct to the laptop)? You may have to reconfigure your wifi.

You have free tech support with Lexmark for this printer. You might try contacting them. Secondarily, you could try resetting the factory defaults from the front screen of the printer, and removing the power block (the power cord is connected to it) then reinserting it.
You can access driver downloads directly at the Lexmark support site. I know that during my setup of a P705 that it would not automatically download the updates.

Check if your printer is still connected to the same network as your computer. Refer to this article: How to Print the Network Settings Page on X4600 Series All-In-Ones (AIOs). If you the printout, check the SSID and other network information. If printer still belongs to your network, then it could be a firewall issue. Make sure to allow all Lexmark and printer communications in the program rules/permissions for your firewall. If printer doesn't belong the same network as your computer, then you need to reset the printer's wireless network adapter and re-launch the Lexmark Wireless Setup Utility. How to Restore the Network Settings on the X4650 AIO to the Original Factory Defaults
Turn on the Lexmark X4975 printer. Lift up the entire scanner unit to rest in an open, angled position that reveals the interior of the printer.
Press down on the lever in front of the printer cartridge that you need to replace to open the cartridge carrier lid.
3 Pull the old cartridge from its slot in the carrier.
Grasp the tab attached to the tape covering the electrical contacts and ink nozzles on the back and bottom of the replacement printer cartridge. Pull the tape away from the cartridge carefully without touching the contacts or nozzles.
Insert the cartridge into the empty slot--the electrical contacts facing the back of the slot inserted before the front of the cartridge.
Flip the cartridge carrier lid over the top of the cartridge and then push down on the top of the lid until you feel the lever lock the lid in place.
Repeat the replacement process with the other printer cartridge if necessary. Lower the scanner back into position when finished.
Increase Engine Horsepower.

What is the IP address of the printer? Print the network settings page from the printer to view the printer's wireless settings. If printer is still on the same network, I suggest you reinstall the software using the driver from the Lexmark website. Before downloading the driver, check if your Windows 7 is running on 32-bit or 64-bit then download the compatible driver.
