I just purchased a refurbished Compaq Model RB-WA98OUA, and it has no sound, even though the volume is ON and not muted, and the audio driver says it functioning correctly?

If the sound is muted go into the Volume control and uncheck the Mute box.
If this does not work then reinstall the audio driver.

Check the Audio and Sound Properties. Make sure the volume is turned up and not on mute. Click Start/Control Panel and look for Audio or Sound to check the volume and make sure it's not on mute.

maybe the Audio Driver needs to be reinstalled.

Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "CompaqSupport" or "HP Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the Audio drivers.Make sure you have the speakers plugged into the light green port on the back of the computer. And make sure the speakers are turned on and the volume is up.

make sure that your mic input is not muted. look under control panel/sound and audio devices, then under your microphone, select "volume" and make sure the input is selected (with a chack mark in the box under the mic volume control) and not muted.

Check to make sure that you do not have the volume controls muted.

If that's no it then go to the Compaq support site and list your model then look for the ES audio drivers for your system, download them and try reinstalling the audio drivers. The restore disk should have the audio drivers for the system.

Try to uninstall the sony suite and ur Audio drivers.
Boot ur computer in safe mode and install the Audio drivers alone.

is the sound manager not muted? did you try checking the volume settings? has it been selected as the primary audio device in the sound applet in control panel? try checking.. then pm me again

1) Try connecting the speaker to a different source like a Mp3 player. If the speaker is playing, Then speakers are fine and its the problem with the computer.

2) If the speakers are fine, Move onto the computer,Please check all the volume controls in Control panel,media players etc. Even after keeping the volume in all controls are high and none of them were muted, Then the drivers can be corrupted due to some actvitiy on the system. Please reinstall the drivers and try playing the music !
