New solution: BUY EPSON, CANON, LEXMARK, anything but HP

  • jevonperra Jul 01, 2008

error reads: "the following prinhead (s) has a problem: balck/yellow [k/y]"

I have reinstalled the printheads and it restarts with the same error.

    what do you suggest?

new out of box printer failed alignment.

reseated print heads and ink tanks and paper multiple times.

    did partial-NVM reset (#3).

nothing worked; 30minutes on HP support call, HP agreed to arrange a new K/Y printhead.

(btw, alignment page only had a series of 'Z' in magenta along the feeding edge of the paper.

Also performed multiple alignment and cleaning cycles.

    Day-2,

pulled K/Y printhead, shook it vigorously, wiped with alcohol wipe and blew into printhead intake ports. after a fiew more cleaning cycles printhead started working with a few streak.

Alignment completed (w som streaks) and a few more cleaning cycles, K was streak free... (depleted huge amounts of K/Y ink, K=50% Y=10%)

    Doh!

I suggest shaking new/dead printheads like a hw/ store paint shaker.

I have the same problem on a L7590 HP "all-in-one"

    "the following prinhead (s) has a problem: balck/yellow [k/y]"
I don't know what to do. Don't want to waste time getting a new printhead if that won't solve the problem.

message that both printheads "appear to have a problem" New ones are expensive. this came out of the blue. Any ideas?

This is an old thread - but I encountered the same problem with my 7580 today - and found this thread. I had replaced an empty black ink cartridge with a new XL black one. I made a about 4 or 5 mostly black and white prints and just like that it told me both printheads had a problem. Took them out and cleaned each ink head with toilet paper and replaced them a couple of times. Then it said that only the M/C head was bad. I tried to do various diagnostics and print head cleaning from the Solution Center with nothing happening. I took out the M/C head and shook it a few times and wiped the head with a napkin. Then I took some methylated spirit and wiped the head again. Inserted, closed the cover and pressed ok for a couple of seconds. It then proceeded to do all that I tried to do from my PC - print test page, print diagnostics page, and align the heads. It went through all and printed fine. This saved my about at least US$80 for one printhead! I hope this helps others. This was posted on 10Jan2011 and applies to HP 88 printheads.

Like someone already said, you need to restart the printer. Also reinstall the drivers and remember: always download them from the official manufacturer's website. You can get the Officejet l7580 user manual

Re-insert the print cartridges. It is also possible that the heads are burnt. Get a new set of print heads (black/yellow) and install to the printer. If problem persists, clean the contacts on the printers. Use acetone + cotton swabs.

Printhead replaced; still says yellow is empty

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Empty ink error message

Hi, its sad to say but the printer sounds that needed to be send to the nearest service center in your area. You already reseat & replace the ink cartridge and issue still present. Please call your printer manufacturer so that they can give you more options aside from sending it to service center. Thank you so much,

Tirzo
