If you have a separate VCR player, you need to hook the VCR output to the DVR input.Press play on the VCR and press record on the DVR.I am not as familiar with DVR's as DVD revorders. The DVD recorders require a digital input such as a cable box or if the DVD recorder has a self contained digital tuner. If the DVR requires a digital input, plug the VCR output into the cable box input and the cable box output to the DVR input.(Not sure if this method will work because you are just basically bypassing the cable box signal).Whichever method you use,try just recording for 30 seconds to a minute to make sure it is recording properly.Hook the DVR output into the TV input.Sounds like a mess but I would at least make sure it is recording fine before you record for 2 hours and end up with nothing. It sounds like you already have a VCR player too so no problemo.Good luck! The unit that I have is a Toshiba D-VR16, which is a combination video/DVD player/recorder. I have a number of VHS tapes which I have created over the years with my video camera, and I now wish to transfer these to DVD. It has been done before on this unit by my son-in-law, but right now he is not available to ask. It should be as easy as inserting tape and disk, and hitting a few buttons - but which buttons? That is the question.

Just put the tape and a blank cd in and just press the Copy from the case.
Where do I find the command "Copy", what do you mean by "the case"?
Where do I find the command "copy" and what do you mean by "the case"?
On the front of the unit right between the tape and cd doors there's a button clearly labelled Copy - press it.
the button says dubbing, not copy, and there is a button on the remote as well.

I asked the question "How do I copy a VHS tape to a CD". The answer I got was "insert a VHS tape and a CD and hit Copy from the case" I then asked where do I find the command "copy" and what do you mean by "the case".
I am still awaiting clarification!
