Question about Linksys WRT300N Wireless Router

1 Answer

Kicked off my newer PC!

I've been running my WRT300N on g/h mode for a while because my wife has an older XP laptop. I have a shiny new Dell E1705 with Vista and an internal N card. I finally bought a wireless-N notebook adapter and got it working fine with WPA2 Personal, AES encryption, on N. Now I can't connect my newer laptop at all. The "Connect to a network" screen just says, "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network"

I'm not sure: Under "Wireless MAC Filter" (which is disabled) it shows no addresses. Under "Router Information" there is one listed as "Internet MAC Address." There is also a "Local MAC Address" under "Local Network" and then another one under "Wireless Network." Sorry for all the quotes. In some ways I'm a newbie and in others I'm o.k. My home wireless network is magic to me.

I recently upgraded from my 2wire DSL to Uverse. My older laptop with the 2wire card and the home portal fins the new network but only runs at 11 mbps. Where my other laptop with the newer 2wire software...

That means the older 2wire card was a B model adapter, which can only run at 11mbps. The other laptop most likely has built in wireless or some other adapter in it that runs on the G model, which is 54 mbps. There is no way to fix this issue, other then aquiring a new wireless adapter for your older laptop.

Cannot connect to the internet

open internet explorer, go to tools, internet options, then the connections tab and make sure ' never dial a connection' is ticked, assuming you had a dial up connection before using the router on this pc or if you briefly used it.

Wireless connection of netgear wireless router for compaq laptop

When you look on the box that the router came in, you have to look to see what Operating Systems it is compatible with. In many cases, routers will not be compatible with vista. I have a Linksys WRT300N, and it works great with Vista.Hope this helps.

Frequent disconnects with wrt300n

Ok for starters this wireless technology is still in it's early stages and is being tested while wireless G is still in play. Most of the time if you continue to get kicked off or get no connection at all, this is due to firewall settings. When a device connects to a router of any kind it must send and recieve a signal. Unless you have a static address on your laptop. (an IP address you placed into your wireless adapter setting) Your IP address sometimes changes, it does this when you turn off your computer, log off, etc. Sometimes when reconnecting to your wireless network the IP address changes because it is a dynamic address. A static address never changes. I have found that with some wireless technology devices if a firewall is setup with windows XP the IP address changes thereby not allowing the device to reconnect to the network or be recognized based on the IP change. I have found this alot with wireless printers, external Network storage devices, etc. Sometimes when you take down the firewall your computer will reconnect to the network. Or just go back to the basics: Right click onto the wireless icon at the bottom right near the clock. You should have an option asking you to repair, this helps most of the time.

Most common problems with having be disconnected from your network is when you have a laptop and you use it outside of home on or in another location. Any more questions I have tons of answers. I can also walk you through a network setup!
