Is it worth spending 150 pounds on it or is too old to invest anything?

Hi,

If the thinkpad is under warranty then i suggest you to get it replaced or return it to them and they will repair it up.There are no home remedies to fix it up..

Since the screen costs 150 pounds plus another service charge may also be their to fix it up..It would be better to get a new one with a warranty and make sure you take the warranty extension packs for the new one, once the warranty expires this way it will help you to save alot of money..

Goodluck..

Well..you can run it with an external monitor you know..and extend it's life..otherwise, you'll need to do computer hospice on that unit..

you may find that moving to a more accessible laptop, like a Sony or Toshiba, will server you better, by the way.

How do i switch to external monitor

Virtually all IBM and Lenovo ThinkPad and ThinkCenter laptops allow you to hook up an additional monitor or projector to the computer. When you add an external monitor or projector to your notebook, you can choose to view the display on the computer, on the external device, or on both the laptop and the external monitor or projector at the same time. Toggling between viewing devices is as simple as pressing a couple of keys on the keyboard.

Shut down the laptop. Plug the VGA monitor cable from the external monitor or projector into the blue VGA port on the back of the computer. Turn on the external monitor or projector first, and then the Lenovo laptop. Allow the notebook to boot into Windows normally. Press the "Fn" and "F7" keys at the same time to switch the display from the laptop to the external monitor or projector. Press the "Fn" and "F7" keys again to enable the display on both the laptop and the external display device. Press the "Fn" and "F7" keys again to display screen contents only on the laptop LCD. choose support you need http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-54305.html http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-4YQHUC.html enable tv out on thinkpad http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-58625

Unfortunately, the screen has failed. If it is still under warranty, contact the MFG for a replacement. If it is out of warranty, you may be able to buy a replacement screen from the MFG. An alternative is to connect an external monitor. Buying a new LCD monitor will probably cost less than a replacement screen. But you will give up the mobility of the laptop.
Good luck!

Faulty screen - blue with lines -thinkpad - help please!!

You have faulty memory, replace the memory cards. If that does not fix the problem then the video card is faulty. first change the memory cards. If it is integrated on the motherboard, buy an PCI graphics card. I hope this info was helpful.

tricky!! oh hi im Dyanne.. a totally unresponsive black screen can be th result of failure of th LCD or LCD inverter.( a specialized piece of electronics that energize th screen) to rule out th failure of th video display adapter or circuitry, try plugging in an external monitor..a standard pc monitor.. attached direct to th lappy. if it works, (as i susopect) th motherboard and video display are both working ok and its th LCD which is at fault. this can sometimes be repaired by a competent specialist. good luck xx

I have a single yellow vertical line running down the left side of my computer monitor, nothing has been dropped, and it doesn't appear when other monitors are plugged into the same computer.

Let me guess, its an LCD? Unfortunately this has happened with blue lines to our customers.

Sorry, but chances are you wont be able to do anything yourself, best to take it to where you bought it from (or ring the manufacturer) to get a replacement (if its still under warranty), else you may need to purchase a new one.

Can you plug in an external monitor? If the problem persists on the external monitor it may be a hardware fault, heat problem or a driver issue. If the problem is only with the internal LCD then possibly the cable between the laptop and the LCD is faulty or the LCD is damaged somehow.

Tapping the edges to "fix" the issue does suggest ath hardware fault though.
