Clean the small TURBINE filter under the clear plastic housing. If that doesn't work remove the brush assembly and see if the drive is turning. If not, you can easily access the turbine(and gear assembly) to examine components. My $5 flea market unit was not turning the brushes. After removing six screws to access and examine the turbine, and manually get it moving, everything is back to normal.

Hello, their is two reason why the brushes don't spin, one would be the brush brock is broken, take out the brush, and mnake sure their is a plastic two inch shaft sticking out, if not, then the brush block needs to be replaced, if fine, the the turbine is frozen and will need to be replaced, take the lid off and replace the black turbine, I can send you anything you need, or if you have any questions feel free to call 1561-848-3387 Thank you, Teresa.

Don't forget to clean the FILTER. Some units can be rendered functional by simply removing the gear box and manually turning the turbine.

On hoover steam carpet cleaner, the brushes do not rotate on low or high settings.

Follow these steps if the Brushes Fail to Spin
ā€¢If the brushes on your Hoover carpet cleaner fail to spin, there may be a problem---some sort of blockage---with the suction or with the belt that turns the brushes.
Turn the Hoover carpet cleaner over, and inspect the brush area. Debris, strings, or pet hair may be tangled in the rollers, keeping them from turning. Use a pair of scissors to cut away any obstructions in this area. Flip the Hoover carpet cleaner back over, and turn it on to see if cleaning the rollers has solved the problem.
To check the belt, turn the Hoover carpet cleaner over, and remove the bottom plate screw with a Phillips head screwdriver. Investigate the belt area to see if it is broken or has somehow slipped off. If it is broken, you can order a part from Hoover.com or from many of the other online parts stores.
When the belt arrives, simply slide it on in place of the broken belt, reattach the bottom plate and turn the Hoover carpet cleaner right-side up. Turn it on to test your solution.

The spin brushes won't spin Hoover Steam Vac F5874-900

The brushes are driven by air pressure passing through a small turbine. There is a filter in the path of the air flow. When it gets full of dirt it prohibits the air flow. You need to open the base and clean the filter out. It will run perfectly.

MY HOOVER DUAL V STEAM VAC CARPET CLEANER BRUSHES WILL NOT SPIN! WHY?

There are three things to check:

Is the switch on the hood for brush speed set to full, or may it be set to OFF?

Remove the brush block from under the unit by pulling it down and unlatch each side. Is there a 1/4 inch square drive pin on one brush, about two inches long? It connects the brush to the drive mechanism.

Lastly, the drive mechanism in the base may be bound-up, and not spinning. If so, the unit needs disassembled to repair or replaced.

I own a hoover steam vac model f5915-900 and i currently have two problems. 1. the brushes are spinning at a much slower speed. 2. the steam vac is not picking up the water it leaves on the carpet....

the reason the brushes are not spinning is because the belt is slipping, the belt is the bad that connects to the brush to a shaft that makes it spin. Next problam is it is probobly clogged. so water is not going through all the way

Model #5880-900 Hoover spin brush carpet cleaner

i WAS LOOKING AROUND FOR A SERVICE MANUAL FOR MY F5897900 CARPET CLEANER AND I SAW SOME THING ABOUT HAVING TO "PRIME" THE PUMP. YOU PPARENTLY TAKE THE TOOL HOSE AND HOLD YOUR HAND OVER IT FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS. THIS MAY OR MAY NOT WORK.

ANYBODY KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND A SERVICE MANUAL FOR A HOOVER CARPET CLEANER? SEEMS TO BE A VERY CLOSELEY GUARDED SECRET.

Hoover terrain steam cleaner, brushes wont spin

The primary problem is that the turbine is seized. One way to verify this is to try to manually move the brushes by hand (with it off, unplugged). If not then your problem is with the turbine. This usually requires professional service. I would recommend to take it to a trusted vac shop which is familiar with these cleaners. or go to the hoover web site to locate a hoover dealer near you.

Problems with the Hoover Steam vac Heated carpet cleaner

This happens when the filter on the inside of the lid for the dirty water tank is pushed all of the way up. You need to leave a 1/4 in. gap from the top to the top of the filter.
