This sounds like you need to reset the microprocessor - push the power button in while pluging the unit in

AWRC1G Bose radio/CD I have....when I turn on there is nothing but a tremendous screeching sound and thats all I hear.

I know this is an old post, but more likely than not you have a liquid damaged unit. This is very common and symptoms such as that which you describe are the result. We service hundreds of these units with great success. CET Services, 117 Windsor Ave., Hurley, WI 54534 // don.miller60@outlook.comS2XL9M

Hi, I'm about 40 miles NW of Chicago and reception here is not great. I like to listen to AM radio. I usually use my speakers just to listen to CD's, but I decided to try my Acoustic Research receivers...

First make certain the CD player isn't on when the radio is on. CD players cause inteferance with radio's. Apart from that you will need a good aerial. If that doesn't improve it then it could be down to local conditions -hills, power lines etc, blocking the signal. Also check there's nothing around the house that might cause interferance to the signal.

Right speaker not working. Will work during test however is not working after.

When it works with only the audio test signal that is provided by the receiver and nothing else, then that indicates that the device that is connected to it that you are trying to get sound from is not functioning properly.
First however, make sure that your balance controls are properly adjusted for matched output. Then check the connection of the devices such as your DVD player, CD player etc. If you are using digital connections such as optical or coaxial, then try a different cord...they might be damaged.

How do we listen to aCD in 5 channel suround sound without having the TV on we can only get straight sound. We have a Yamaha RX-V365 av receiver.

Do you listen to audio CDs via a CD player or DVD player? Pure audio CD is only 2-channel, so either TV or the DVD player is doing the mix to 5 channels. But you can choose the sound mode via remote - there should be modes like 5ch/7ch stereo, where the same signal is going to all speakers (I you this mode for listening to radio sometimes).

There are probably several sound settings on the receiver :
Dolby surround , stereo, theater, SACD etc.
Try another setting other than the one you have
