Hi, My buffalo external HDD power supply seems to have died. So i connected the external HDD directly to my PC via IDE cables. My PC recognized the connected external HDD but didn't boot and ended up freezing in the black screen. Does it mean I need to install OS in the connected hard drive? Does new OS installation will erase all data in the hard drive?

Code error 10 device refuse to start

used how? PC or MAC?
running the encryption way?

Most fast external HDD have a power pack.
20watts is typical to run any fast drive. they suck 2amps at start up.
so power is king, if not good power, the HDD can be destroyed.
say , using the wrong pack.
some slower HDD use laptop slug HDD< they use very little
power and some dont even need a power pack,
i looked on newegg, yours is the slug kind,
is USB3 too.
but some systems can not produces USB power, too good.
This is a common issues with using over 500mA on the USB buss. and for SURE must be plugged directly into the PC
and never a USB hub (RTM)
try you unit on other PC and Laptops.
it has special cable too. that can be damaged.

so try all USB ports directly to the system
then using your ear, press it to case side, HDD.
is it whirling? , no, then there is no power to it, or its dead.
easy that, huh?
try it on another system.
the led color , reasons are in the manual. red, green, blue.

error code 10,what did that come from?
and last the horses mouth

Popular issues: problem with Buffalo Technology (HD-CE500IU2) 500 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive My laptop is no longer recognizing the Buffalo External Hard Drive. When I plug in the USB to my laptop,

HI guys, I found a solution to a similar problem with the buffalo portable HDD that I brought from my friend. I just changed the HDD cable with the cable from Western Digital My Passport HDD and all problems were sorted out. Physically the WD cable is bit thicker than the Buffalo HDD cable. So suspect the cable is the problem. Please check if this is the problem with your Buffalo HDD before formatting. All the best

I can't find my hard drive. Where is is?

1) Depends on whether you are using an external or internal Hard disk drive
2) If it is external HDD, ensure that the USB cable is plugged into the PC for auto connectivity
3) If it is an internal HDD, You have to unscrew your metal case, look for the 3.5 inches in rectangular dimension metal device screwed onto your CPU casing. Ensure that there is a physical cable connection between the HDD to the Motherboard. The cable that will direct you to the HDD from the Motherboard should either be the SATA (Small Flat headed Red cable) or the IDE cable (white flat 24 pin cable)
On the HDD brand label there should be a Capacity size in MB or GB or TB, Cylinders, Heads and ensure that the poswer supply is connected to the HDD if it is an IDE HDD

My external hdd from bytec is not recognized by my computer. What shall I do?

Try to use direct connection to your computer. Using IDE cable.
If your comp can detect, means your external casing problem.
If not detect, your hard disk problem

Connecting WD Passport external HD with Belkin N+ router

I had this same issue. Found it to be a sequencing issue. Plug the USB into the router with the power off to the HDD. Power on the HDD and you should be able to get to it fine. Also make sure you have the latest firmware on the router.
