I have a Hotpoint WDF740 washer dryer. When I turn the dial it doesn't register any cycle it doesn't make any noise when the dial is turned, therefore I can't use the machine at all. Can this...
This just happened to my hotpoint washing machine, I realise it has been a long time since this has been asked but since my answer is different from the others I thought I'd add it anyway in the hope it will be useful to someone one day.
The fix was super easy, all that was wrong was the plastic knob itself, which had broken internally. I only found this out after taking the top and front covers off, which is an easy enough procedure, I did it this way: unplugged the washing machine, removed two screws from back of machine that hold top cover in place, then using a putty knife pushed between the top and front covers front to back right at the corners, thus releasing the top cover, once this was out I could unclip the front cover and get to the screws that hold the control board to the front cover. I unplugged the electrical connection to the board, removed all the screws and unclipped it from its plastic cover. At this point I could see the plastic knob had broken, I recovered the broken bit and glued it back on.
After the glue dried, I just put everything back in place reverting the previous actions.
Hope this helps. If you don't have glue or can't find the broken piece, you should be able to just buy another plastic knob off the internet.
