I just started up my laptop and stuff, but when i started the Freecom 250GB external hard drive its making strange sounds and now its switching its light on and off, i can't use it either. Its about 3/4 years old and i think i over used it (70GB is occupied on it) but i still need it.

its not working on another laptop either, i used all USB ports. My laptop aint that old, its about 3-4 years or something but lately it has been shutting off, you know, suddenly without doing anything. The only thing that isn't working is the Freecom external hard drive/3.5/USB 2.0. the manual said something about not exposing the hard drive to shocks, does the whole "laptop suddenly shutting off" have anything to do with it?

Try to use it on another computer and see if it works fine on it. Chances are (hopefully) that the external is just not getting enough juice from the USB port. How old is the lap top? Do you have problems with any other hardware on the usb drives?

Ok then it is the HD, you can take it in to a computer store and have them save the information off of the drive. You can also go to the manufactures web site and see what the waranty is like on the HD also, you may be able to get a new one to replace the defective one. But first and fore-most, go into the closest circit city and see about getting the information saved onto another hard disc.

Dell Inspiron 570 loud hard drive hum.....(?)

Hi,
Any strange noise like excessive clicking, grinding, some weird sounds etc. actually indicate a failing hard drive.
Failing hard drives often show warning signs of their imminent demise. If you're lucky enough to see or hear one of these signs, stop what you're doing and immediately back up your data. They say prevention is better than cure so if your computer's hard disk is making some strange clicking sounds, BACK UP YOUR DATA IMMEDIATELY (As the drive is not operating smooth and may fail anytime).
After making backup of your important data on CD/DVD or External Drive, you may scan the drive for surface errors, format it and see if it works properly or not. It would be better if you seek professional assistance for examination of the disk.

Hard drives are mostly under warranty for at least one year. Claim warranty, if possible.
Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

In the control panel, go to administrative tools, open computer management. On the left side, there will be a "Disk Management" section, use that to assign a drive letter to your hard drive.

Crashed hard drive

Seagate File Recovery for Windows is one of the best programs I've used. I had an external drive that was totally invisible to Windows until I popped it with this stuff and was able to retrieve everything on the drive within minutes. The stuff costs $129 but is well worth it. You should download the free trial just to see if it will access your data after which you can decide if it's worth the purchase price to recover everything...

Freecom 400GB Hard drive not recognized.its a Freecom mobile drive xxs 400gb , my pc just cant recgnize the hard drive

I'll assume your using Windows.
I'll assume it's a USB drive.
I'll assume it is an external drive.
And I'll assume it's formatted as NTFS.

Try using the USB (or FireWire) port for anouther drive to see if that is the problem, if it is then reinstall the driver for the port, through the Computer Managment Concole (assuming yur using windows).

If you formatted the drive as FAT, re-format it as NTFS.

Hi,

oh dear it sounds like the hard drive may of failed.

The clicking is generally the head hitting the end stop.

In the past I have managed to recover drives just long enough by sticking them in the freezer for 24 hours, taking it out and hooking it back up an hour or so later.

Or the drop fix occasionaly works, drop the disk in a flat surface from a couple of feet high.

If you try either of these its entirely at your own risk but failing sending it off to a data recovery house theres not really much you can do I am afraid.

Sorry I couldnt of been more help

Regards

Nick

hi there,
sounds like you have a hardware problem...you should look into trying this drive on another system to see if the same thing is happening without the drive software ...and if it works try to recover all your data from this drive as soon as possible...hardware problems are most time intermittent ... so they work now then say after a while they stop...

Freecom hard drive problem?

Unless you "GHOST" or "CLONE" the programsd over to the harddrive, instead of just copy and paste, they will not open. What you will have to do mo0re than likely is remove the installation files through control panel and reinstall the program onto the external harddrive.

Freecom 250 Gb Hard Drive

Hi des,
you need to install windows XP, on a different hard-drive.
even if it,s only 10 gig plus.
You can then access the drive.
Your problem is here, is that you,ve upgraded from XP to Vista, theres a possibility, that you may have lost or even formatted your freecom hard-drive.
No-Support-Device detected, is saying that your USB devices are not functioning correctly.
Check in the bios that the USB devices are enabled, to operate your hard-drive. ( this is assuming it,s a USB drive )

Hope this helps you out.
