Light flashing 5 yellow then 1 green. said operator error. Occured after wife tried to change black ink cartridge but mistakenly replaced it with Cyan cartridge. IS this machine smart enought to know the difference. I have since replace with correct black cartridige but error message won't clear.

Make sure that the printer is on. The power light should be on, but not flashing. Open the printer cover. Press the maintenance button. The print head moves to the black or color ink cartridge replacement position, the power light begins to flash, and the error light begins to flash or remains on. When both cartridges are out of ink, the print head moves to the black ink cartridge replacement position first. After replacing the black cartridge, press the maintenance button again to switch to the color cartridge replacement position. Lift up the ink cartridge clamp as far as it will go. The cartridge rises partly out of the cartridge holder. Lift the cartridge out of the printer and dispose of it properly. Do not take the used cartridge apart or try to refill it. Remove the new ink cartridge from its protective bag. Next, remove only the yellow tape seal from the cartridge. Do not touch the green IC chip on the side of the cartridge. Place the ink cartridge into the ink cartridge holder, and then close the ink cartridge clamps. Do not apply excessive force to the cartridge. Close the printer cover. Press the maintenance button. The printer moves the print head and begins charging the ink delivery system. This process takes about thirty seconds to complete. When the ink charging process is finished, the printer returns the print head to its home position, the power light stops flashing and remains on, and the error light goes out. The Amber light is designated as the "Ink Error" light. With regards to a 960C Hewlett Packard or almost any inkjet printer, the Amber light is indicating that one of the Ink Cartridges (Tri-Color/Black) is empty, defective, unrecognizable, or just simply needs to be changed. The procedure is; lift up the front cover, look at the Black Ink Cartridge, and examine the Ink Level Window on the Cartridge, located at the center of the Cartridge. If the square window appears to be a solid Green then that means the cartridge is completely full. If it is Half Green/Half Black then it is indicating that the cartridge is half way full, and if the square window is completely Black, then the cartridge is completely empty. Also, remove and examine the Tri-Color Cartridge. If the Tri-Color Cartridge feels very light or if the Tri Colors on the bottom of the Cartridge appear to be discolored i.e. All Magenta, All Cyan, or All Yellow, then the Cartridge should immediately be changed. After replacing the Black or Tri-Color Cartridge, your printers Green Power Light will flash and allow you to continue your print job

Clean the cartridge and carriage contacts with a cotton swab moistened with water. If you have refilled the cartridges don't assume that they will still work. If cleaning doesn't help you may have a failed cartridge even if it is not refilled.
If you are getting a grinding noise, clean the carriage rod with alcohol and lubricate it with a few drops of Tri-Flow, available in 2 oz. squeeze bottles at cycle shops.

when the yellow led flashes is never a good signal... you should check the manual's printer to find out the error code meaning "4 yellow flashes and 1 green)
Usally it's the waste tank that is full, in this case you need to:

1. Push “resume” for 5 seconds for canon IPXXXX.
   
2. Push Power switch then remove power cord.
3. Insert plug power cord while pressing “power switch” at the same time.
4. Push Start/reset by step 2 continue Wait display shown “0′
5. Push + change display from “0′ to “1′
6. Push color button 2 times
7. Push Power switch again , Printer will print 1 page
8. Open cover
9. Unplug power cord
10. Take out ink cartridge #40 and #41
11. Insert plug again
12. Push power switch
13. Open cover (scan cover)
14. Insert ink cartridge #40 and #41 again

7. If you need to replace the other ink cartridge, repeat steps 2 through 6 before continuing with step 8 (to move printhead over to color (if black was replaced first) press the cleaning button once).
8. Press the INK (Cleaning) button once, and close the printer cover. The printer begins charging the ink delivery system.
9. Wait until ink charging is finished (the power light stops flashing and the red error light goes out).

Based on the lights you are already out of one or more ink cartridge or an ink cartridge is not being recognized/expended.

-You cannot print if any ink cartridge is expended.
-Leave the empty cartridge installed in the printer until you have obtained a replacement.

Once you start the ink cartridge replacement procedure, you must complete all the steps in one session.

As I remember the C60 has just 2 LED's: 1 - Green for Power 2 - Red for Error The third button - Cartridge exchange - has no LED Now it is a while since I looked at a C60 and my brain leaks like a sieve, but that's the way I remember it and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
