If the drum is turning and air is blowing then the most likely causes are thermal fuse trip, thermostat fault or heater fault.

after checking and replacing the vent going outside still the air was not venting and inside my drier everything was wet although the air was hot. After removing the rear panel i saw the blower belt disconnected. it took me some time to get the belt on but everything is ok and the air is venting and clothes getting dried. Also note that the little pulley came off its positio too.

The dryer does get hot but takes a very long time to dry a normal load of clothes. What I noticed is that the top right hand corner of the dryer gets scalding hot during the cycle. It worked fine before I...

It sound like you have a venting problem. The air from the dryer is probably restricted by either a clogged exhaust hose or duct work in house or a stuck vent flap where air blows to the outside. If your vent goes straight up to the roof, something may be blocking the exit or the whole line may be clogged. Also check for a kinked flex hose that attaches to the dryer. If blockage is in wall of house, there are vent cleaning companies that can clean out the line.

Dyer really hot, not drying clothes

Is the dryer tumbling? If not, you may have a broken belt or some other drive assembly issue.

Also, turn the dryer on and go outside to the vent discharge - you should feel air coming out at a pretty good clip. If not, the vent line is obstructed and will need to be cleaned out.

Whirlpool WED5300VW0 dryer--gets hot, tumbles,

This definitely appears to be an air flow problem. Take off the vent and see if it is blowing any air. If air, lots of it, comes out the dryer, the vent is clogged and needs cleared out. If no, or very little air blows out the dryer, the blower wheel could be broken, or there is a serious clog. Check the lint filter and look inside where it goes for anything that might be restricting the air.

How long should it take to reach a hot temperature?

Try disconnecting the vent at the back of the dryer and run the dryer with the air blowing just into your laundry room for a few minutes. Air flow should be strong and you should feel discharge air heating. It still sounds to me as if the dryer has flex vent and maybe does not line up with the dryer outlet, so that when the dryer is pushed back into place the actual space left for the exhaust air to pass through is very small. If this is the case, there is a telescopic low profile aluminum vent available to solve the problem.
