If it is an older type PS3 (Phat) on the left hand side of the console there is a small plastic cover. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, carefully prise one end of the cover outwards. There is a small cut-out on one end where the screwdriver goes. When you have this cover removed you will see a blue cross head screw. Remove this screw. You will also see a small wire clip that is attached to the side of the hard drive caddy. Pull this clip outwards. Carefully take hold of the clip and slide the hard drive towards the front of the console. The hard drive will then come out of the side of the console.
If you have a PS3 Slim the procedure is slightly different. On the bottom of the console there is a small flip out cover. Carefully remove this cover and there will be a blue cross head screw. Remove the screw. Now look below the slot where you put your discs. There is another plastic cover. Slide this to the right and remove it. Behind that cover is your hard drive. Flip the metal clip down and pull the hard drive out.

Hope this helps!

Turning on unit, display of "cannot start the correct hard disk was not found" I tried reseting it by holding the pwr button for ten seconds, didn't work. What can I do?

The only thing I can think of is if you know anyone else who has a ps3, try using your hard drive in their ps3 to see if it works, if not you may have to buy a new hard drive. I don't have a ps3 so I am not sure if the hard drives are removable or not, but I do have an Xbox 360, and the hard drives are removable, and are very easy to remove.

My ps3 i tried to restore its def a hard drive issue I just dont know to remove and installm hard drive and which hard drive the best suitable money not object can i get a walk through on what i need to do...

Ok, changing the hard drive on a PS3 is pretty easy. First, on the left of the PS3 there is a little cover that you can flip out with a small flat blade screwdriver. When this flap is removed you will see a small blue screw. Remove this screw. There will be a little clip that unfolds from the side of the hard drive casing. Hold on to this and pull the hard drive towards the front of the PS3 and then pull is sideways. You must keep the metal frame that the hard drive is secured into. There are 4 screws that hold the frame onto the hard drive. Remove these and the hard drive will come away from the cage.

As to what hard drive to use, really any SATA 2.5" drive will do, it all depends on what sort of data you want to keep on it. I have heard of people installing up to 500Gb hard drives, this is probably the maximum size you want to use. Some people supply hard drives already formatted to PS3 standard, but any drive will work. When you first plug the drive back into the PS3 it will say that it needs formatting, just agree to this and everything should work fine.

Hope this helps.

My PS3 is broken and It will not turn on any more do to blunt trauma and i want to get the info off my hard drive how do i do this can it be done.

If you mean you want to transfer the files from that ps3 to another, all you have to do is remove the harddrives in both units, and swap them. If you want to have the harddrive in the new unit instead of the old one, once you have the old harddrive in the new unit simply use the backup function and backup to an external harddrive. In either case keep the extra drive because ps3 harddrives have a tenancy to die (I'm on my third drive)
Heres a video on how to remove the drive:

Cannot find hard drive. any ideas how to solve

The link below has the instructions on how to remove your hard drive from your PS3.

http://www.fixya.com/support/r4853494-fix_playstation_3_corrupted_hard_drive

Note if you are wanting to upgrade the hard drive on your PS3 and you have unit with the drive bigger than 20GB I would recommend that you get an external drive to put your saves and data files on. The reason for this that the PS3 encrypts the data so if your PS3 dies you will not be able to recover your save files.

Right get yourself, 3.5 sata usb dongle. Remove the hard drive from the PS3. Connect, the hardrive into the closure and connect it to your computer. format the harddrive and put it back into the PS3, this works a lot of the time, if this doesn't work, you need a new HDD, just get an identical unit.

HOW DO YOU CONNECT THE PS3 HARD DRIVE TO UR PC?

The hard drive in the PS3 is the same as a laptop hard drive.

Unfortunately there is no way yet to connect the PS3 to the PC over a network, so you will have to remove the hard drive from the computer and physically connect it to the computer.

There are two ways that I know of:
First:
1) Take the hard drive out of the PS3
2) Open your computer case.
3) Install the hard drive just like you would any other hard drive.

Second:
1) Take the hard drive out of your PS3
2) Put the hard drive into an external usb 2.5" hard drive enclosure.
3) Plug the enclosure into your computer's USB port.

Red light flashing on ps3.not over heated as only switched on for 2 minytes if that

OK - the problem could be with the hard drive connection - I have had the same problem after having moved the PS3 from one place to another. Apparently the same falshing red light fault indication is caused by either a poor hard drive connection or damaged hard drive.

Disconnect the powewr, remove the hard drive cover on the left hand side of the PS3, remove the blue screw (philips head), lift the metal latch and move to the right, the hard drive will disconnet and can be withdrawn from the unit.
Put it back in (carefully!) and slide it to the left, there is enough space on the left side of the drive to either slip in a finger or screw driver and ensure it is fully home.

Lower the metal clip back into place, replace the blue screw and cover and it should now boot up when powered on - if it doesn't, try the same procedure a couple of times - if this still doesn't clear the problem, it could be a faulty drive.
