Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have two CTX monitors.

They power up and show the green power on light, then flicker and shut off. They go through many cycles of this. I've ordered the capacitors to replace on the entire PSU. what could be causing this? Also, is it the inverter problem (this is a different monitor) when I plug it in, it powers up, shows the self check, then the CCFL lights turn off? I dont hear any high squeals like my Princeton monitor.

I'd greatly appreciate your advice.

Well by ordering the caps replaced that is a start for the first one it should work like new when you get those replaced, second monitor it could still be a cap issue but you need to look and see if they are doomed if hey are popped then they need to be replaced, one of the reasons they shut down is variance in the power supplied to the ccfl if it variances too much the unit shuts the vga and thereby the ccfl unit off.
fyi you don't need all the caps replaced just the popped ones.

1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor.
2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor.
3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on.
4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works).
5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord.
6. If the power light is on and yellow or flashing, but nothing displays, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor needs replaced.

My CTX model S761 LCD monitor flickers and I think it needs new bulbs. Do concur that is the problem? Where can I find new parts?

The "bulbs" in LCD's are CCFL tubes. Similar to the long flouresent lights you see in office buildings etc.
If they are blown, then they don't flicker.
Chances are the inverter circuit, what powers those tubes, is failing and should be looked at by a qualified technician.

Hope that helps =)
