Question about Kenmore 22422 Top Load Washer

I need help also.

Dear Guru,

I just had the similar problem with my 7-year old Kenmore 70 series (can't find the manual although I bought it from Sears, so don't know exact model number now, may check it out somewhere). Yesterday, I found it not draining nor spinning after washing, then I found the coupler under the top for that lid pin was broken, and one screw was missing, too.

I can do many repairs including electrical things if I know the structure and how things work. I'm thinking of buying a coupler and hope to get your advice to see if I can fix it. Otherwise, I may have to buy a new one as I don't think spending $200 or so on a 7-year old washer is worth the money. What do you think? Thanks.

Thank you, Guru, for the kind reply and info. Actually I found out that the lid switch itself still works well, but the whole assembly fell off because the two plastic screw sockets broke. Now, I'm just duck-taping the lid switch to its place so that when the lid is down, the machine drains and spins ok. However, the tape tends to get loose and then the lid switch stops function. I'd like to replace the switch but have no info about how to access where the swich is connected to. I'll find the model number later and see if you have the info about what part to order and how to replace it. Or if you know any contractor in this area (zip 08619), I'd appreciate it if you can provide the info. Thank.s

    Dear Guru,

My Kenmore 70 series washer's model number is:

    110 22712 100

    Type 111

Please advise what lid switch part to purchase and from where. Thanks.

    Hi Guru,

I'm happy to report that I fixed it using your advice. I purchased a lid switch online and installed it within about 30 minutes. Putting back the washer outer shell took about 10 minutes, otherwise it was easy and fun. Thanks.

Is a lid strike permanently attached to a lid switch or the two are separate? It would help a lot if you can show a picture of each part and tell me where to purchase?

The machine and model is:

The model number should be located around the tub opening somewhere. The part you are describing sounds like the lid strike and/or lid switch. If you can doublecheck and provide me with a model number, I can locate the parts for you. If you wish to repair this yourself I have step-by-step instructions at the following link:

The lid switch usually costs about $25, while the lid strike costs about $10. A repair of about $35 may change your mind about buying a new one. I hope this helps you. Post back if you have further questions, or need more assistance.

I can assure you, that you don't need a contractor to replace a lid switch. This is a simple repair job that can take minutes if you follow the link I posted for you above. I also mentioned how you can identify where the model number is. The steps are simple, the switch doesn't cost much and it will take you little time. When you find out how simple this is, you're going to hate yourself for putting off for so long. Sorry...I don't know of any contractors, but if you still need assistance please let me know.

Glad to have been of assistance. I'm glad you were able to solve your problem with minimal effort and cost. This was an easy fix. If the advice fixed your problem, why only a "Helpful" rating? Is there something more I needed to assist you with?

    To whoever "Guest" is:

The lid strike is a separate piece that attaches to the LID. The lid switch mounts UNDER the washer casing. The lid strike activates the ld switch through a small opening along the rim of the wash tub by pushing down on the contacts when the lid is closed. All your parts can be found at Just type in your COMPLETE model number and there will be a list of parts on the next page, along with helpful drawings to assist you in locating parts and how to assemble.

Kenmore Heavy Duty 70 Series Leaking in the back

If you bought a new washer and you still have a leak, i guess it was not the washer but where it drains into. Sink or stand pipe has a leak. unless you are useing the old drain hose from your old washer. Dry up everything and look for the sorse of water with a bright light when the washer drains .

I have a Kenmore 70 series 28741

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.82874120+

Go to the section on Top and Cabinet and you should see how the switch mounts to the cabinet.

You'll have to remove the cabinet first.

Please see GURU JSROCK516 Description of how to remove cabinet and access the transmission.

After you've removed the cabinet, the rest should be relatively easy.

Kenmore 70 series will not drain or spin

It sounds like the lid switch. If it ws the coupler the water would drain. Check to see if the lid switch is clicking when you put the lid down. replace the lid switch. You have a great washer. Fairly cheap fix.
